OT: Kentucky NIL is out of hand

You can't really compare it to pro sports because pro sports have a draft, arbitration, etc. Most of the biggest baseball stars are under control of the team that drafted them until they're close to 30, so I think the payroll gap in MLB can be a little misleading. Paul Skenes, for instance...

OT: Kentucky NIL is out of hand

I'm not surprised - the market for basketball talent has always been much more efficient than the football market. Most of the top football prospects don't even see regular snaps until year three or four, at which point they're already draft eligible and not as likely to be wooed by the offers...

    2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

I'm sure this is true to some degree. We have a lot more information now, better technology, better training regimes, nutrition, etc. But I think that's also the problem. We don't get to see guys pitch into the 7th and 8th inning anymore because we have data to tell us you're better off going...

    2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

The stuff might be better but the quality of pitching is not.

    RIP Lawrence Moten

I came here hoping that there'd be a thread on this. That was a great era of college hoops. R.I.P.

    USF…. (Merged threads)

While I largely agree, one thing that gets lost in these discussions is that different conferences assign different values to different schools. There's no standardized rate to guide our outlook for the future, meaning you never know when the Big Ten might pull a Rutgers out of its hat and...

He Was An UNGUARDABLE Shooter... Until His Mind BETRAYED HIM

Yeah I love Ben but he was nowhere near a HOF. I have him behind Rip, Caron, and Kemba as NBA players. Kemba might've had an outside chance at the Hall if the knee issues hadn't derailed his career. I'm sure there are a couple outliers, but generally I think of making several all-star games...

He Was An UNGUARDABLE Shooter... Until His Mind BETRAYED HIM

"But he's a real bipolar, it's not that Kanye bipolar, that fake one - this is a real bipolar" - Gilbert Arenas Not sure when Gilbert got his medical degree, but I'd like to know what constitutes "real bipolar" if it's not Kanye. As for Ben, he's one of the purest scorers to ever put on the...

The guy that played two seasons in that span?

    New Rule For Transfers Proposed

The problem is that there's no collective bargaining, revenue sharing, etc. in college basketball. I think you'll see some of these measures adopted by the heavy hitters to prevent transferring from one power school to another, but otherwise the wealth disparity is just too great for something...

OT: Most influential U.S. athlete of the past 25 years?

It's LeBron and it's not close. A lot of people don't like him which skews the answers. Tiger would be a reasonable choice if golfers were athletes.

    28 team playoff!!

If conferences were still 8-12 teams like they were intended to be, this might work. Unfortunately, you're never going to convince anyone that a league consisting of Alabama, OU, Texas, Georgia, LSU, etc. should be limited to two bids in order to make room for clearly inferior teams. It makes...

    28 team playoff!!

What a circus. I'll never understand people who insist on trying to turn the CFP into March Madness. Football is a violent sport. We don't need to see Arkansas State play Michigan for the same reason we don't need to see China's military in action against Slovenia's. God only produced so...

Welp, ACC stays together with a new agreement (LINK)

I think the ACC is going to be the reason the ACC breaks up. The half of the conference that takes football seriously (Miami, Clemson, FSU, NC State, Louisville, VT, and maybe one or two others) is going to bolt for the Big 12 as soon as it can. The rest will disperse in whichever direction...

Welp, ACC stays together with a new agreement (LINK)

That's true. All bets are off after the B1G ditched its 100-year-old contiguous model to chase LA $. At this point I see no reason it won't eventually explore expansion in states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, and Colorado. I wouldn't even put it past them to flip a school like...
