Various tidbits about UConn this year, in Big East openers, etc. http://www.uconnhuskies.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/032312aaa.html
Marzi has a 2.97 ERA and is 0-4. Offense needs to get it's act together and start getting the big hits. I feel as if getting runners on hasn't been too much of an issue but they've seemed to fall one hit short a bunch of times. Obviously that's kind of just how baseball goes when things aren't going well. Hopefully they turn the corner this weekend.
We need to win at least 2 of 3. I am obviously looking for a sweep. If we want to be considered for an at large bid, we need to put a string of wins together. As I posted before , I think we need to get close to 35 wins prior to BE tourney. So we have some work to do. Lets hope we start turning it around this weekend.
UConn up 8 -2 top of 7th. Moore, Ferriter , Testani and Mazzilli have 2 hits each. Fischer started instead of Ward. Not sure why. Hope Ward is ok.
Doesn't college baseball follow MLB rules where 5 or 5.5 innings, depending on the home team, is considered a complete game?
4.5 or 5 innings, yes. But if they can finish the game the following day they will do it. If the game on Sunday had been suspended in the 7th inning the game would have been called and UConn would be given the Win because they need to travel back for classes on Monday. I would guess that it's partially due to the fact that there aren't exactly 50,000 people with tickets that would have to return to the park the next day or be given discounted tickets to another game, things along those lines.
Anyone have any way to follow this game? WVU site has nothing. UConn site only has Gametracker up for the next game. WHUS is currently a couple of hipsters broadcasting ty music.
Just found out that Brian Ward will not be pitching this weekend. He is resting a sore shoulder, but should be ready for home opener against Seton Hall next Friday.
Thanks for the info. If they hold on to win the suspended game and take one of the next two to win the series without their ace I would be happy. A sweep would be gravy without Ward.
I know this is premature( since we technically have not won the first game yet) but a sweep would be awesome. I keep going back to the magic number of 35 in season wins. This is my magic number, so i am not even sure if this actually is the true magic number. To get to 35 wins. We need to go 9 - 1 in our out of conference games and 19 - 8 in the BE. Going 19 - 8 means we need to sweep 1 series and win 2 of 3 in each other series. This is no easy task but if my magic number is correct, we have some work to do.
I was out during the conclusion of the suspended game and can't find anything on it on the UConn site. Am I right to think they hung on and won?
