UConn women's soccer. Being content with being 1-4 wins away from a national title since 1981. I can't imagine a Calhoun or Auriemma sitting around for 35 years waiting for a national title to come to them. You gotta go out and build the team and coach the daylights out of them.

An unserious effort down in Jersey today. There is no excuse to lose 4-0 to a team you already faced once coming off a great win. Rutgers is good. But when FDU and Hofstra can hold them to a goal and you give up 4 it says a lot.

Dind't see the game; but, I am glad that the Women made the playoffs this year though not happy being blown-out by Rutgers. Need to get some support for Hill next year. Build on this year's success and take a major step forward next year.

UConn made it to the NCAA second round last year, and the third round this time around, so there was some progress. The team will still have Rachel Hill and goalkeeper Emily Armstrong around, together with a solid core of returning players that should probably keep the Huskies as the top team in the AAC. However, a bunch of seniors who contributed such as Sam Maguire and Andrea Plucenik will be gone, and that very well could rob the team of a lot of the depth that it had this past season.

The NCAA Women's Soccer Final 4 down in Cary NC will feature a battle between the ACC and B1G with Florida St and Duke squaring off with the winner going up against the victor between Rutgers and Penn St.

I found out that Rutgers had made the Final Four when they made an announcement about it during the "Prairie Home Companion" broadcast, of all places. Anyway, UConn women's soccer has made it a habit of losing NCAA tournament games to eventual national champions a number of times, usually in the form of North Carolina when they were winning the title just about every year. Never thought that there might be a chance adding Rutgers to that list, but we'll see what happens next weekend.

Very true. When I was at UConn, UConn almost always ended-up in the same bracket at UNC. The one year that weren't, they lost the semi-final to ND, who won the title that year. They also fell to Santa Clara a few times in the semi-finals, too.

And the streak continues, Penn St knocks off Rutgers 2-0 in the first semifinal. The Nittnay Lions will play the winner of FSU v. Duke with the Blue Devils leading 1-0 at half.

Was checking something else and decided to look up the final NSCAA D1 women's rankings for 2016. UConn finished in 10th place, very happy. Hope that is a sign of an upward trend for the program going forward.

Penn State was #1 as they won the title; but, they were not unanimous. WTF? #2 Duke, who Penn St beat in the finals, got 3 first place votes, #3 Florida St, who Duke beat in the semis got 2 votes, and Rutgers, who Penn St beat the the semifinals got 1 first place vote?

FYI, UConn women's soccer landed two solid recruits from the two of the top soccer programs in North Jersey - Erin Spillane a midfielder from IHA and Kristen Vinciguerra a defender from Northern Highlands.

Great to see. Tsantiris has done a great job recruiting lately. If not for the freshmen on defense last year, UConn is not a top-10 team. Nine players graduate this year (unless Hunsberger can and does get a medical redshirt?) but there's still plenty of depth. Having some impact freshmen definitely helps.

Crossing topics here; but, if somehow UConn ends up in the XII, would UConn women play in the XII knowing that the travel would be tough or see if they can play in the Big E, which would be the likely landing spot for women's lacrosse, field hockey, and men's soccer as the XII does not sponsor those sports?

I'm pretty sure that any team in a sport sponsored by the Big 12 has to go to the Big 12. Men's soccer the only one in flux. Lacrosse and field hockey are already in the Big East.

Travel for women's soccer and other XII sponsored Olympic sports would be brutal and expensive. Te XII has 9 women's soccer teams with just K State not sponsoring women's soccer. So each year, UConn would likely have 4 to 5 in-conference road games per season. It could be manageable to break those into a pair of long road trips with games on Friday and Sunday. One to Texas and 1 to the non-Texas schools. WVU can of course be handled on a separate day trip.

That's how the Olympic sports usually work, anyway. Women's soccer usually plays USF/UCF or SMU/Houston on the same weekend trip. That's not something that would have to change. Sometimes done in groups with sports like volleyball.
