Not a good week for Swofford and the ACC.

For the past decade they've been proactive trying to stay ahead of the Jones' unaware that the Jones' weren't even paying attention to him.

Every move he made was like going to a payday loan store to take out a loan to pay off the previous weeks payday loan.

And for all the publicity and moves, the ACC is being done in by one horrible reality- their product sucked for the past decade. The ACC over the past decade was built on a strategy of having FSU or Miami going 12-0 or 11-1 and the other school going 10-2. Throw in a UNC that realizes its potential, along with VT and GT all going 9-3 or 8-4 and then another group of NCSU, Virginia, Maryland and BCU all coming in around the 7-5 range but being competitive. Never happened.

The regular season embarrassing losses, the abysmal BCS record and scandals at Miami, FSU and UNC killed any top level sustained success.

They are now in "you reap what you sow" hell.

The Enron of college football.

And yet even with all that, there's still a large contingent of our fan base that would prefer it over C-USA 1.5.

Everyone but Nelson would have taken an ACC invitation from day one. That includes president Susan Herbst.

Ironically, not getting an initial invite may work to our advantage as this plays out, but I would rather still be over there than over here in what feels like no man's land at the moment. The 2013, season can't get here soon enough to see if the BE still has all of their intended teams in tow.

The reason being that many of our rivals are already there. Look, UConn isn't going to factor into a the National Championship picture for another 20 years, no matter where they are. There's not a shot the B1G wants UConn over the other schools they could possibly have. Plus, the ACC has a stable TV contract with the Worldwide Leader.

What does the Big East offer right now? It's hard to even say that it offers basketball anymore....

the NBE vs whats left of the ACC
-fball will be better in the NBE
-old bball rivals will be in the ACC
-$$ will be better in the NBE
-NBE is more of a national conf if we get byu/...

ppl need to stop living on the bball dream team from 15 years ago with cuse/duke. f those schools. we can live without them. let them rot and kill them off while we band together with other schools that strive to be players in cf, not collect paychecks and rot.

Whaler will say "I knew it all along" when a bunch of teams do leave the ACC by the end of June.

V Tech is the Jennifer Anniston of college sports. Right place, right time, good management. If they aren't performing due diligence with the Big 12 I'd be shocked.

The conference we are in is a muddled pile of burning s***. The ACC has the potential to be a muddled pile of burning s***.

But their s*** fire will be much less of a s*** fire than our s*** fire.

We're better off in their s*** fire. Temple, UCF and SMU are not in their s*** fire.

You are delightful. I'd put FSU at 50-50 to end up in the Big 12 - It might end up being more money then they can walk away from - but yes my original impulse is that they would stay. I agree with Bobby Bowden.

I don't buy into a lot of the other stuff. I'll believe the Georgia Tech's and Virginia's are somewhere else when they end up someplace else.

You do realize you are playing a game against yourself though right? Most of us are just sharing ideas on a topic in which we are very interested. There is no scoreboard, there is no prize, we either all win or lose together (except IMatt - he loses for being a Syracuse fan no matter what).

At this point you will have predicted what will happen.... because you've predicted every single possibility in the world.

The best part would be you celebrating your UConn, UMass, Buffalo prediction coming true.

Strategically speaking, the ACC is infinitely better all things remaining equal.

No visionary leader is going to come in and fix the Big East. And the ACC is where our regional peers are located.

For the B1G to happen, alot of things need to swing our way, plus our nearest home conference game is 5-6 hours away unless Rutgers comes too.

The big four will screw up college football with their overly enthusiastic and optimistic power plays. An eastern conference will need to be a big part of the future enduring framework.

I think I am starting to join the camp that thinks that if FSU, Clemson, Va Tech, and Ga Tech actually go, that we should merge the ACC with the Big East. I'm thinking UConn / Rutgers / L'Ville (if the Big 12 essentially takes 4 from the ACC, then I think they are SOL) / Cincy / USF / one more (Navy?). Those 6 join the remaining 10, for the best possible scenario available to the remaining teams.

You call the new conference the Big Atlantic Conference, or BAC. All the commercials and slogans have a bunch of linebackers with UnderArmour shirts and scowls on their faces saying, "We're BAC!" Then, if legally possible, you void the ACC contract through merger and go into the open market for a bigger contract.

Now that I've thoroughly depressed myself, I'm going to just have faith in the fact that UConn is a great brand name and that we'll be okay no matter what.

If you get to the point where VPI and Georgia Tech go, you are going to have a heck of a time keeping North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, maybe Miami. Something like Syracuse/Pitt/UConn/BC/Rutgers/Wake/Duke/USF/Cinci/Louisville would be awfully lucky to get ACC money.

Question: Should this play out where FSU, Clemson, G.Tech, & VPI all head to the Big 12, do the Big East schools hold firm to see how the TV contract plays out, or do they succumb to a possible ACC invite? If this perfect storm should hit, & UNC & Virginia get SEC invites, Maryland gets called by the B1G, the ACC leftovers might come crawling in the Big East's direction, as the ACC will be gutted.

That would be my dream scenario, but the problem with it is that there may not be time to watch UNC / Virginia / Maryland to get invites elsewhere before UConn and Rutgers say "yes". That yes would happen in a New York market minute...

The rumors going around seem to support the possibilities of the other ACC schools going. It's ironic to me that the mock merger you've posed contains 8 current or former Big East members with only 2 ACC members. What a shame, that we've all essentially killed ourselves off in this weird game of musical chairs for a little more money, only to possibly see each other again....with less money...
