Basically goes back to 1962 and weighs a program's success for a season. I imagine Top 10 (advantage is that conference titles mean something, and UConn had a bunch of Yankee Conference titles in the 60s).

Going back that far, I imagine that the Top 4 looks something like:

    UCLA
    UNC
    Duke
    Kentucky

The rest is difficult: Kansas has only 2 titles in the time period. Michigan State has 2 titles, and a ton of Final Fours. As does Louisville. UConn has 3 titles, but fewer Final Fours.

Most of the conference championships before Calhoun were from the 50's, I think.

since they clearly spelled out their system it wouldn't be hard to calculate the scores and rankings if one's that interested.

Postseason ban carries a penalty, so does recruiting violation, so does loss of financial aid. That will hurt us.

Also, UConn has become a more recent powerhouse, so I think we'll be further down than we might be on, say, a "20 in 20" list.

    So:

    Conference Champions = 15 for 75 points
    Tournament Champions = 7 for 21 points
    W%?
    #1 seeds?
    NCAAT - 24 for 24 points
    12-16 seed wins?
    2nd round loss?
Sweet Sixteen loss = 5 for 25 points
Elite Eight loss = 6 for 60 points
Final Four loss = 1 for 15 points
Championship game loss = 0 for 0 points
    NC = 3 for 75 points
    NIT Championship = 1 for 1 point
AA: First Team + Second Team = 5 and 8? for 31 points
Top 10 NBA picks = 11 (Drummond, Kemba, Thabeet, Gay, Charlie, Okafor, Gordon, Butler, Rip, Ray, Donyell, is that it?) for 22 points
    Vacated seasons = 1 (1996) for -2 points
Infractions =? but at least -5

So in total that's at least 349 points for and 7 against.

Note: NCState is 43rd with 194 points

According to Wikipedia, Calhoun has 2 second round losses. Before him, I don't know. But at least two total.

I don't believe we've ever been a 12-16 seed, so we probably have no wins as them.

Also, did you count the 1996 conference title and Sweet 16, and will ESPN?

I did, I think ESPN will. They do mention they penalize for vacated seasons and the like, but they don't say they exclude the accomplishments of those seasons.

St. Johns, St. Joes and one other tied at #40 with 197 points.

BTW, UL should be ahead of UConn and Cuse. UNC, Duke, UK, UCLA, KU and MSU are probably also ahead of UConn. Zona/Indiana are a bit of a question mark.

KU will get a ton of points for conference championships.

UCLA should be #1 by this metric. They have 11 championships that count and a few other runner ups and final fours. The championships, runners up and final fours should get them 390 points alone. To show how big a lead this is, the same three metrics only get UK 205 points.

I think UConn might crack the Top 10. UConn has a pretty decent record in the 60's and 70's. Back then only one team from each conference made the Big Dance.

BYU at 37 with 218... looking good for UConn if they are in the neighborhood of 350.

Some Cuse fans seem to think they will end up #1 in the BE...but i did some quick math thanks to Wikipedia....and just based on the conference titles (we did get 6 in the Yankee Conf), tourneys, and NCAA tourney, were;' ahead of the Cuse by about 301 -215. I haven't figured in AA's and NBA top 10 picks (of which we have 11). I also didn't figure in annual winning %'s.

I think this will end up being Louisville - UConn - Cuse for the top BE schools.

cuse fans are idiots. they can't see past jimmy b's bs. lets win alot of games every year but have no substance to it. i play zone and i wont put out a ton of player like other teams we want to be like. we dont win big games and the 1 ship i have is because i got a stud nba player to go to college for a year by accident. cuse fans are brain washed. rah rah nike tney rah rah were better than uconn for this espn thing. where is st bill? i miss him now.

Probably higher than Syracuse and slightly lower than G-Town. I'm thinking 9-13 range.

How can you justify UConn not being top 10? Most Big East conference titles-17, another 17 Yankee Conference titles, 16 Sweet 16's, 10 Elite 8's, 4 Final Four, and 3 NCAA titles. Please, it's not even debatable. Cuse is the most overrated program only bc they have a ton of communications grads working at ESPN. Only thing they beat us in is all time wins. They did a great job padding wins against Monmouth during World War 2...good job

Ouch for Florida. I think people might be over-estimating UConn's position.

Not worried at all. FL has had a nice little run but nowhere near the sustained success that we have had. This isn't football.

I think you forget that Florida did pretty much nothing from 1962-2000 (there was that Final Four in 1994...I know). From 1962 and on, they have a total of 8 conference titles of any kind (most in the last 12 years). UConn has 6 that count just in the Yankee conference, not counting the 17 in the BE.

They had no conference titles until the late 1980s. They didn't make the tournament until 1987. Their accumulated points from 1962-1999: 14

UConn has tournament appearances and conference titles in the 1960s and 1970s. And then a great run from 1990-now.
