Is that a contributing factor? Maybe. That soccer is, at best, the 4th most popular team sport in the country might have a little more to do with it.

No. It’s because with revenue sharing, a low salary cap (to allow small markets to remain competitive) and single entity is keeping the brakes on investing in the roster.

It’s more cost effective to develop talent or flip players at this level of spending.

MLS is the American Franchise model with training wheels and parachutes.

It’s about as Mickey Mouse as can be imagined.

So it is purely about the cash then. It seems odd that someone of Ronaldo's stature would go to a crappy league. I understand the sport is very different than our US sports but does this make sense? Is it because he knows he is slowing down? Come to America Ronaldo!

Because he’s old as heck and this is his last chance to get a mega paycheck.

The Saudi league is garbage.

It is solely because of money. The Saudi league may not be as competitive as others but they have the money. Ronaldo will not be the last one to take a huge contract there when they are aging out of top competition.

This is just like a few years ago when aging big names took a final contract in China or Qatar. It’s money.

That has nothing to do with it. It's more that the other top team sports are the best in the world.
