Weekend Coastal Carolina Tournament

A couple of observations from the statistics this weekend and season. UConn was outscored 28-11. 5 errors were committed for a season total of 31. The lead-off (0-14), DH (1-10), and 3B positions (0-6) were collectively 1-30. For the season, UConn is 15-31 or 48% stealing bases while the opponents are 24-32 or 75%.
Hopefully there is improvement as the Big East part of the schedule kicks in this weekend. Pitching should come around as well. A 3-0 or 2-1 trip at WV would be a good result. WV is hitting .233 (UConn is .271) and their ERA is 6.43 against UConn's 4.71. Let's go!

Most of our pitching staff is inexperienced frosh & sophs. Basically the staff has done well. Defense has been poor. And the bullpen has been inconsistent.
Once we settle down in the league, and with weekday local games, hopefully we can build our record up to be attractive to tourney selectors.
From what I can see this years frosh are doing very well for freshmen. Next years crop of freshmen is even better. The future should be bright. Hopefully, we can start working on the present, starting Wed. vs Yale.
