Outside of Drew he would be the last player I would want at bat in that situation. Victorino looked out of sinc and overmatched throughout this series but have to give him props. Veras hung a breaking pitch and Victorino didn't miss it. IMO he was the best pickup this year. On to the series!

0-2 pitch........what are these dopes thinking? That's the reason why, with such good stuff on occasion, Veras can rarely find a home!

No matter you still have to hit the pitch and in the clutch Victorino did just that........clutch hit!!

Yup, that pitch should have been low/away and in the dirt with a 2-0 count. Got to give the hitter a chance to get himself out.

That's on Avila just as much as Veras. Show him a fastball away, out of the strike zone, then maybe another inside, before going back to the curve. No effort at all to set the hitter up.

The pitch itself wasn't a "hanger", but Victorino seemed to know it was coming . . .

Neither team could hit. The Sox averaged just under 7 hits per game and 5 runs per game. The Card averaged 7.5 hits per game but just 2.3 runs per game. The Cards could not hit with men on bases.

In terms of runs scored, Boston and St. Louis were 1 and 3, respectively (2 was Detroit). In terms of .OPS (On-base % + Slg. %) they were 1 and 10, respectively. The two teams tied for best record in the majors and hitting was not a small reason why. The claim that neither team could hit is a bit less valid than both teams pitched their collective @$$es off.

The pitching was incredible in both the ALCS and the WS. Love the young arms on the Cards staff.

Detroit, Sox and Cards had impressive pitching performances no doubt..........but there was a lot of crappy hitting too..........Cards had an amazing .331 avg all year with RISP or something like that and the Sox baffled them when the opportunities came up in the series. Guys like Freeze, Jay and Carpenter who all had decent years were dreadful.........a lot had to do with Lester and Lackey as well as the bullpen though, especially Doubront who was really good!

Good pitching always beats good hitting. The Sox came up with timely hits despite being out-hit overall. The Cards could not. Hitting at the right moment is the key. In 1960 the Pirates were out scored 55-27 by the Yankees and they still won the World Series.

No doubt but the Cards are not a good hitting team......that does not take away from the season or the win the Sox were better. I was just really disappointed in how bad guys looked at the plate.......I believe it's more of an AL NL thing quite honestly and I know Deep will hate that. But I can't imagine how a guy like Carpenter could lead the AL in hits or a guy like Jay could hit .320 or whatever..........

The Card are lucky the Sox hitters like Pedroia, Ellsbury and others weren't hitting it would have been real ugly!!
