Ok I guess I really am getting old. Why Br{ache? Is that supposed to be like Break? What is the significance of misspelling it and putting a '{' in it???

Also, I know what LGBT stand for (although I still not sure why G and L are both used??), but what's the Q for?

I think this is pathetic. Many want to watch athletics only and not have to watch some advocacy for a social position run down their throat. Why this particular social position and not some other that affects far far more people?
Whether this particular cause is noble or not does not change my opinion of having college athletes advocate for a social cause greatly detracts from the reason people watch.

Q is questioning, or so I was told.
Maybe the L and G differentiate male and female?
No idea on your other question.

No one is forcing this down your throat, you don't have to watch it. And maybe it's a cause that is important to THEM...hence the reason they chose to participate? And how is this going to affect your enjoyment of the game, unless they reenact it during halftime or something?

Well - lets see ... women's basketball growth and expansion, the 'modern era' is the direct result of a social cause being championed by many people - that of equal rights and opportunities for women in athletics. Maybe they feel a need to kick the can a little further.

Ok I suppose that would make sense.

I realize that, just don't understand the need to. The "G" encompasses both male and female already. Unless the word has changed again.

Yes it has changed - gay is generally used now gender specifically to refer to gay men while lesbian is used obviously for women.

.
I was wondering that very question.
There is heartache in silence, but every time silence is broken another voice is heard. Br{ache the Silence.
The "Br{ache" is to highlight the heartache in exclusion and keeping quiet regarding this issue. The unusual spelling also helps in finding the cause easier on internet search engines, as the message might be harder to find by merely googling "break the silence."

I think it's up to the Team/Coach to decide what's important to them---not you.

I like silence. Especially when I'm watching UCONN play. ;)

Ok, that makes sense. If you know to google that.

I love these kids and I love their bravery. I work in a school system and can tell you that bullying occurs frequently and has gotten worse. These kids are role models and I am proud of them.

Actually, it does to those within the various communities. I've had lots of interesting discussions with folks about the differences. Probably too "PC" for some  but I found their perspectives and observations illuminating.

I still don't understand what "Br{ache" actually spells... I get the "No H8", but it's spelled Break, not whatever that was. Is there some meaning I'm not getting?

Q is for Queer, and I assume that because some people self-identify in that way, as opposed to "gay," that word is included. Unlike some, I don't believe this is random political speech at all. Inclusion is a major issue in college life. Just look at that awful Rutgers case a couple of years ago. Just look, as someone suggested, at Rene Portland. Anyone who thinks that homophobia in WCBB went away when Rene left is dreaming. I think that what these young women have done is terrific, a testament to the quality of their team, their willingness to take a stand, and their own intelligence. IMHO, of course.
