As I mentioned on another thread, Kay and Montgomerie are scheduled to start Friday's games, Tim Cate will go on Saturday, and Rossomando gets the nod on Sunday. There is some rain in the forecast for later on Friday, so that could affect the second game of the day against Cal State Northridge.

Offense rolling again against W&M. 15-1 heading to bottom of 5th. Yahn just hit a grand slam.

@ATLDYKA Nepiarsky getting a look now. Maybe this is the start of him seeing more regular work in the 'pen?

Good deal. Wonder if he will get the start Tuesday? Anybody know the final?

I would be very surprised if Zapata did not get the Tuesday start, especially considering how well he pitched against Yale last Tuesday.

Even better, Nepiarsky came into the 9th inning with two runners on base, and got the final two outs without them scoring. I don't care how much of a rout it was at that point, that was a nice pitching job. Things like that will get you more chances to show your stuff. The coaching staff sounded like they were underwhelmed by Nepiarsky's performance in fall ball and the preseason, so maybe this is the start of things turning around for him.

Unless one of the current starters (and that now includes Tim Cate) falter, Nepiarsky is going to be coming out of the pen this year. It's certainly a more crowded bullpen with a goodly amount of young talented pitchers looking to prove themselves to the coaching staff. At the same time, UConn is scheduled to play 4 or 5 games a week from now until the start of finals, so there will be more chance for all these guys to pitch, including Nepiarsky. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

In the post game interview, Coach Penders mentioned a change in the pitching rotation due to the second game being postponed today. Cate will pitch on Saturday, with Montgomerie now set for the first game on Sunday, with Rossomando following in the second game that day.

ANALYSIS: @Stitch_Head had this piece on @UConnBaseball and the national picture
http://www.d1baseball.com/analysis/sorensonuconn031216/

>>Even at 8 a.m., there were numerous scouts already out at Matador Field in Northridge just to watch Husky starting pitcher Anthony Kay warm up. The projected first-round draftee is something special, especially to the play-for-pay boys.

Well, unfortunately it wasn’t a no-hitter type of day or a 20-strikeout type of day. To be honest, Kay didn’t need to be anything special, his offense took care of that. To say that UConn wielded some hot bats would be like saying Kate Upton is “kinda cute.” The Huskies mauled the Tribe arms for a resounding 18-1 win as they blasted out 17 hits, seven of them of the multi-base variety.<<

Tim Cate off to a good start in the top of the 1st inning. Two strike outs, one hit, no runs.

William and Mary gets a double in the 3rd, but Cate strikes out the rest of the batters he faces. That gives Cate 7 strike outs through 3 innings.

Not sure how much farther Cate can and will go, but he has been terrific so far.

Even if we give one up here, I have faith the bats will come alive. We can't give up any big innings though.

Top 6, 2 outs, runner on 2nd.

Error by Melley leads to a William and Mary run. 1-0, UConn at bat in bottom of 6th. I'm thinking Cate is reaching the end of the line today. It certainly won't be the last we see of him in a starting role.

Easy inning for Over in the 7th, getting two more strikeouts for UConn pitching.
