Strike him out, throw him out!

Do something offense…

Nvm, phantom overturn keeps bc on offense. UConn escapes anyway thanks to questionable repeated attempts by BC to bunt for a base hit.

Top 8th, Quinn has a scoreless inning, the inning ends (nope) on a strikeout and with Garbowski throwing out a stolen base attempt of 2B. After a play review, the runner is ruled safe in stealing 2B. The runner next steals 3B. Quinn gets the final out with no run coming in. 5-4 BC.

Top 9th, the first 2 BC batters reach base on a single and a hit by pitch. After a strikeout for the 1st out, Quinn comes out of the game, Afthim takes the mound.

After a double steal, an intentional walk loads the bases with 1 out. After a strikeout, an error by Dalena allows 2 runs to score. 7-4 BC going to the bottom of the inning.

Man. Lots of walks early, a grand salami given up, little offense to speak of (excluding walks), defense not helping cause and a pick off. @uconnbaseball is correct story of the season…

Thoughts on game:
Good
1) Thought Padilla and Dalena at least had good approaches at the plate. Everyone else not so much. Only 5 hits.
2) Cookie I don't think he his stuff moves enough. Hence make a location mistake against good hitters and he's giving up HRs. He threw well no excuses but need to find more movement.
3) Given how the year is going I'd continue to play Kron in CF and let him get ABs against D1 pitching. Develop the younger guys.
4) They turned a good double play in the 7th
5) Drew 7 free 90s
6) they did strike out 12 BC guys but this doesn't look to be one of BCs better teams based on 1 look (I know they have a new staff in place and they lost guys like Honeyman from last year)

Bad
1) Schild again had control problems walking 5. Threw 68 pitches in 3 2/3. We'll see what they do with him maybe give him another start against CCSU.
2) Quinn and Afthim threw well no major issues there. Quinn gave up a couple of hits but threw 49 pitches also
3) Gave up 7 free 90s and 1 HBP (5 from Schild)
4) Morton got picked off (teams know what they are going to do and when they are going to do it)
5) Didn't realize Studley is 2-25 with RISP. Kind of an amazing stat.
6) Jonesy said Daniels has a hip and "may need surgery" or "could be back tomorrow". Odd he's pinch-hitting in 40 degree weather. I don't know the facts but if he needs surgery get it confirmed and get it done NOW instead of playing at 60% the rest of the year. That way can rehab and be ready for fall. Hips aren't easy. Again only going off of Jonesy's comment I don't have all the facts.
7) Garbo is not throwing out base stealers (maybe not all his fault) and his defense isn't great (let a ball get by him that in my opinion should have been caught).
8) Seems they have to scrape for every run. Bases loaded nobody out its a FC to get a run, not a double up the alley to clear the bases. No runs in chunks it's all 1 at a time. Hard to win that way.
9) Seems also they lack identity and leadership. Maybe Hyde and Coe being named captains foreshadowed this. I always like to have a position player on the field as captain (e.g. Smitty in '23). BTW not meant as a negative in any way towards Coe/Hyde.

Game was a microcosm of the season. Losses are piling up. Right now short-term goal is to win BE reg. season and qualify for BE tournament. At-large on back burner unless they can go on a huge run this homestand. Always possible but not probable.

Obviously a disappointing season so far. Have to hope to get into the BE tournament and win it unless they can do what they did back in 2010 with that winning streak.

Props to all that document the games this season.
