>>The UConn baseball team (28-18) is back on the road this weekend for a three-game set at American Athletic Conference rival East Carolina (29-17). This weekend marks the second series between the Huskies and Pirates this year, with UConn looking to avenge a series victory for ECU in mid-April in Storrs. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. before a 4 p.m. start on Saturday and a 1 p.m. series finale on Sunday. <<

Daniello must be hurting. Aaron Hill is listed as the starting shortstop for tonight's game.

Hill gets picked off by catcher at first. Then Testani was picked off first by the pitcher but only because they dropped the ball he was safe at second. Then Sundberg singles him in. 3 errors already by ECU.
Is it me or our base running blunders getting worse as the season moves on.

Sounds like a sloppy game between the UConn base running mistakes and the fielding problems of East Carolina. So far, the fielding problems of East Carolina seem to be having the larger impact. 5-0 UConn with the game in the bottom of the 2nd.

5-0 lead and Cross comes out and hits a guy and then walks a guy and now 2 runs are in and still batting. Just throw strikes.

Up now 11-2 going to the bottom of the 8th. After sitting for about 30 minutes because of a long UConn at bat, Penders brings Cross back out. Why? Makes no sense.

Deroche-Duffin gets robbed of 3 run homer in top of the 9th. Guy leaps up high over wall to pull it back. 13-2 UConn

Nepiarsky sets them down in order in the 9th.
Final - UConn 13-2

Seems to be a pattern with this team. Score a lot of runs on Friday when you probably can get by with just a few because of Cross and then they go silent. Hopefully they can keep it up tomorrow. Really hit the ball well tonight. They like the road.

Well this was/is a must win series. Need to at least split the next two games to keep the St large hopes alive and reasonable. Great win on the road to start though (what else is new)

What a crazy conference. A five team tie for first, with UConn one game behind.

Game Notes:
  • Carson Cross recorded his 100th strikeout of the season in the seventh inning, becoming the fourth player in program history with 100 punch-outs in a season. The others are Matt Barnes (2011), Charles Nagy (1988) and Colin McLaughlin (1979).
  • Blake Davey's three doubles give him 17 on the year, placing him in a tie for first in The American. It marked the second time this season Davey has doubled three times in a game (William & Mary, 3/18)
  • Jack Sundberg stole his 61st career base in the eighth inning, breaking a tie with LJ Mazzilli for fifth in program-history
  • All nine Huskies in the starting lineup had at least one hit by the fourth inning
  • Willy Yahn recorded his 15th multi-hit game and 13th two-out RBI in his 30th start of the year
The Huskies and Pirates continue their weekend series tomorrow with a 4 p.m. start in Greenville.

Will this be another weekend where we score a week's worth of runs Friday night and struggle to score any more for the remainder of the weekend?
