Some HUGE games mid-week that will decide who advances to knock out round, and whether Italy can surpass England as the third best league (giving them a 4th spot in UCL, and EPL only getting 3 - probably wouldn't take effect until 2017-18 tho).

UCL Tuesday
Group B
Man U @ Wolfsburg, and PSV Eindhoven v CSKA Moscow.
Eindhoven must win (and they are home favorites) to guarantee they advance. If that happens the loser of United @ Wolfsburg is out (or if United draws, they are out). Huge implication in EPL keeping a hold on that 4th UCL spot.

Group D
City v M'gladbach, and Sevilla v Juve.
City and Juve have qualified for next round, this is just for points for their respective leagues

UCL Wednesday
Group E
Bayer Leverkussen v Barca, and Roma v BATE Borisov.
Leverkussen and Roma even on points, Roma has the better head to head (so would win if tied on points). Hope that Barca rests their stars since they've locked up top spot and the Germans can get a result, and for Roma to draw or lose. Unlikely

Group F
Arsenal @ Olympiakos - Arsenal must win by 2 goals or if only by one goal then it needs to be at least 3-2 (to go to extra time) or more to win the tie-breaker.

Group G
Chelsea v Porto, and Dinamo Kyiv v Maccabi Tel Aviv. Dinamo will win big which means loser of Chelsea v Porto is out. If those two draw then there will be a 3 way tie at top of table and I believe (not certain) Porto would lose that tie-breaker

Europa Thursday
EPL sides: Liverpool @ Sion, and Tottenham v Monaco - both Spirs and Liverpool have already qualified for next round. The league needs the points tho. Sion and Monaco will both be playing for their Europa lives tho.
Series A sides: Napoli v Liga Warsawza, Lazio @ Saint-Etienne, and Fiorentina v Belenenses. - Napoli and Lazio are qualified already. Fiorentina needs a win or draw to advance.

If you're an EPL fan, you want them to go 6-0 (as hard as it is to cheer for rival clubs).

Arsenal, Man U, and Chelsea all go out, and Roma goes through. Serie A will overtake the PL by the end of the year.

Until the next mob driven game fixing scandal hits Serie A...

Calciopoli wasn't mob driven: it was club driven. The Mafia is primarily in southern Italy where only a handful of Serie A clubs play, with the notable exception of Napoli.

So the EPL goes 1-1 on the day, putting 1 team (City) advancing to the knockout stage. Series A goes 0-1 putting 1 team (Juve) through to the knockout stage.
Big day today for the Gooners and Chelski.

Was happy that Man U got knocked-out & sad that another EPL has crashed out at the same time. Hoping for the Gunners can find the back of the net often today.

At half time of today's games:
Group E
Leverkussen 1-1 v Barca - Messi for Barca, and Chichirito for Leverkussen (still pissed Spurs didn't try to sign him)
Roma 0-0 v BATE Borisov.
Leverkussen (and the EPL) needs either a win and Roma draw/loss; or a draw and Roma loss. Long odds of this happening

Group F
Arsenal up 1-0 @ Olympiakos. Giroud in the 28th minute.
Arsenal must win by 2 goals or if only by one goal then it needs to be at least 3-2 (to go to extra time) or more to win the tie-breaker I believe.

Group G
Chelsea up 1-0 v Porto on an own goal.
Dinamo Kyiv up 1-0 v Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Assuming Kyiv wins (which they will) loser of Chelsea v Porto is out. If those two draw then there will be a 3 way tie at top of table and I believe (not certain) Chelsea would win that tie-breaker

Giroud, I tip my hat and a glass of wine to you. Arsenal advances behind his hat-trick. Now, on to the next round and question 1A) which powerhouse will Arsenal be paired-off with and 1B) if not a power, can Arsenal avoid falling alseep early on like they did in this round. lately, Arsenal can't avoid the German teams, thus I would wager the Gunners have to take on Wolfsburg.

Ya, it was a good day for the EPL with both Chelsea and Arsenal winning and advancing to knockout stage. The draw for the knockout stage is Dec 14th!
The two seeding pots will be:
Group winners: Real Madrid (Group A, ESP), Wolfsburg (B, GER), Atlético Madrid (C, ESP), Manchester City (D, ENG), Barcelona (E, ESP, holders), Bayern München (F, GER), Zenit (H, RUS)
Group runners-up: Paris Saint-Germain (A, FRA), PSV Eindhoven (B, NED), Benfica (C, POR), Juventus (D, JUV)

- No team can play a club from their group or any side from their own association.
- Seeded group winners will be away in the round of 16 first legs on 16/17 and 23/24 February and at home in the return matches on 8/9 and 15/16 March.

Arsenal could get drawn with one of these 5: Barca, Real, Athletico, Wolfsburg, or Zenit St. Pete
Chelsea could get drawn with one of the these 6: PSG, Benfica, Eindhoven, Juve, Roma, or Gent
City could get drawn with one of these 6: PSG, Benfica, Eindhoven, Kyiv, Roma, or Gent

Overall, Arsenal would likely lose to Real and Barca and would be 50/50 with Atletico and Woolfsburg (heavily dependent on the health of their team in the next round) and have an advantage over Zenit while they cannot be paired with Bayern (happily) and City. As Zenit is seen as the weakest in terms of skill and more importantly marketing power, they won't pair them with Arsenal as that would be considered a 'reward' and Arsenal barely advanced. I see the strongest runner-up, likley PSG, getting Zenit with the winner of that match-up getting the Mistral class warship that the French built for Russia only for deal to be scrubbed after Russia invaded the Ukraine. My gut is that Arsenal will be paired with Woolfsburg.

Juve v Barca
Roma v Real
Atheltico v PSG
Wolfsburg v Benfica
Bayern v Eidnhoven

Bring on Real or Barca (you know we'll get one of them).
