Since Charlie Strong is bringing his guy Sterling Gilbert from TX, I would love ❤️ to see TJ offered the OC/associate head coach position on RE's staff. He also had Shaun King, QB coach on his USF staff and I would like to see him come along with TJ to develop Donovan Williams. USF won 11 games last year and beat South Carolina in the Birmingham bowl. Not only could TJ bring some of that staff (who have FL high school coaching back grounds) but also some of their Florida High School recruits. I wrote a letter to Benedict and the athletic department expressing this idea. It would complete the Home Coming and it would certainly be well received by the fans! Interesting that both Randy and TJ have Birmingham bowl victories over SEC member South Carolina!

Wait - you sent a letter to Athletic Director Dave recommending the OC??

When did you send it?
Did you get a response?
Does your email client have a recall option?

In case you haven't been paying attention under TJ, USF finished 11th in the country in Total Offense - Why pray tell is this a bad choice?

I'm not aware that West and Edsall had ever crossed paths. For as much guff as Diaco got for the manner in which he filled out his coaching staff, it was not an out-of-left-field method. Coaches fill the staff with other coaches with whom they have at least some familiarity.

CC.....you do know this has been discussed on here a few times? You also know that TJ wasn't singularly responsible for play calling at USF?

True but as Edsall stated, the players play. If Weist and a Florida contingent can bring some of their recruits up north then it could be a real score. Not sure Mike Houston at JMU had a close relationship with OC Donnie Kirkpatrick who I also like and the are in they FCS championship next week. Plus Weist also knows the neighborhood at Storrs. A couple of glasses of Scotch and before you know it, they will know each other pretty well!
Hey Weist is available. Are you saying this shouldn't be explored?

No, what did the college of Cardinals decide? I also am aware that he was named interim head coach at USF for the Birmingham bowl. If by some fortune he came, I would also like Shaun King as QB coach for Williams.

Aside from the relationship issue, are you saying he would be a poor or weak choice for OC at UCONN?

Why on earth do we have another thread about this?? Good grief.

It's not that I think he wouldn't do a good job. But the subject has been covered ad nauseum in other threads over the last week. I guess we've run out of things to talk about?

It looks like the news that Strong brought in Sterling Gilbert on 12/30. So was TJ discussed after the news on Gilbert? It looks like TJ Is out at USF and it may be an opportunity. I have had a family member in the hospital so may have missed the discussion. Not intentional trying to be repetitive but certainly feel this should be considered.

RE is going to pick the best guy for him and UConn. Here's my question on TJ. Why doesn't he stick with a coach and/or team for more than a year at a time?

First of all this is a sports blog where bloggers/fans discuss thoughts and ideas.
Second if you check the record he was at WKU for 7 years where he worked with Willie Taggart. He would still be at UCONN today but Warde hired Diaco. Coaches do move around in this day and age. TJ has made no bones about it. His goal is to be a head coach. If that's not in the cards right now, OC under Edsall might be a good next step. Worked well for Moorhead!

I'm not clamoring for Weist to come back, but I wouldn't be opposed to it, either. Maybe he could even be the heir/coach in waiting once Edsall actually retires. The only turn-off with Weist is the idea of more retreads, but it was clear Weist was beginning to find his groove the last few games of 2013, especially offensively.

Entice him to come back as a coach in waiting since he desperately wants to be a head coach anyway, and Edsall might only be around five years tops if he has decent success again.

Why wouldn't Taggert take Weist to Oregon if he thought so highly of him?

Ummm....Carl, you posted at least twice in the "Coordinator Prediction Thread (HCRE)" this past Saturday (12/30), giving another golden shower to T.J.

It will be really hard to find an OC that will be more exciting to our base than TJ. Those that aren't interested aren't offering up many solid alternatives. The guy took our awful team and won three in a row, now he just closed out USF's year with 4 straight. The guy is pretty good but most of all, he's a strong, positive, quality guy that also knows a thing or two about moving a team down the field. He's a heck of a lot better at running a team at game time than Diaco was, that's for sure. I'd be all over TJ if it were my choice. However, I am guessing Edsall has his own staff lined up.

Frankly, if we get TJ I will kiss Benedict's shoes because the guy is reading what we have to say around here, looking at our history on the field with certain guys around and assembling a team of handpicked UConn guys that have shown they can get it done here. I would love to see Bendict get him and I think the fan base would be overwhelmingly excited about it.

Ya think! I also like the Fordham coach, Andrew Breiner because of his schooling under Moorhead and JMU's OC Donnie Kirkpatrick but it will most likely be someone totally different.

Seems like finding diamond in the rough coaches is more Randy's style than bringing in people with names. Weist would be great, but hard to see it happening.

Whether it's coaching or life, luck can go a really long way for people. I think TJW has made rational moves to try and move up the coaching ranks that, for one reason or another, haven't worked out for him. I only met him once but he struck me as exceptionally prepared and a coach that players love playing for. He's got what it takes in my opinion.
