Wow, talk about getting the cold shoulder! At game's end, Karen Aston can't get past Geno fast enough. I also noticed while watching her presser, that she never said Geno's name, always referring to him as "he" or "they." She's an interesting one.

Java, I agree with your comments. I even went back and re-watched the presser and you are right. She never uses Geno's name. But I don't think she meant any dis-respect. Also , I give her much credit to even put UCONN on her schedule when many teams would not when we had the Big-3. She's a good coach with guts.

Plus, you must understand that she just lost the game and lost the #1 recruit in the land to Geno and
The Huskies..............All within 3 weeks. So she deserves to be a little down.

Fair enough. However, even though she may have meant no disrespect, she did tip her hand on her apparent lack of respect ...imo.

She paid the highest compliment to Geno late in the game when one of her assistants had to physically restrain her from going at it with a ref after what she felt was a horrible call.

She has passion. Good for her. WCBB needs more like her.

frankly I think she was pre-occupied with what was really on her mind (and she stated quite clearly)..... they had an opportunity to beat UConn and they didn't show up for the fourth quarter

Perhaps. But not 'showing up' for the presser doesn't set much of an example as a leader. (imo) I think Karen Aston is a pretty good coach, she's done some good things at UT. I think, though, that her bias towards UConn and Geno has been evident for the last couple of years. (again, imo)

Don't forget that Geno won the Walker sweepstakes when the longhorns and a very significant number of wcbb people had her in that putrid orange color. The Texas fans were pulling off all kinds of social media shenanigans heretofore unseen for a wcbb player. They are stinging in defeat and there may be some smoldering animosity lingering from the coaching staff all the way down to their casual fans. Also, the fact that Uconn has knocked them out of the tourney for two consecutive years will not endear any opponent to you.Think what the Muffster thinks these days concerning Uconn. She will have fire in her eyes on Wednesday and i hope Uconn can fan those flames and leave a discernible mark in their wake.

I watched her blow by him in the line, very late in the line, and thought that she needs to grow up. It is freaking hoops. People are dying and you are feeling petulant and not liking that mean Geno.

Here's a thought, have your little guards get it to your yuge front line. That seemed to work ok.

Sorry - think you are reading to much into it - i believe Uconn and TX are working on a home and home and TX is leading the effort. Agreeing to the JimmyV - basically giving Uconn a home game without them agreeing to come back to your place is also a pretty big step and one that a lot of coaches will not make. MD agree but that was at MSG not the Casino - MSG is pretty neutral and a big draw by itself.

I agree completely. Not only was Texas knocked out of the tournament 2 times, they were torched. Losing Megan Walker to UConn must hurt and they are now 2 - 4. They were within 2 points with 2 minutes in third quarter. They lost Ariel Atkins for the game and maybe for a while. Most coaches would be pissed. That is a good thing. Competition should bring out the fire. Hope they recover. The more strong programs that develop, the better.

I think that Kim Mulkey is a better performer when she gets upset about a call. She starts to undress on the court. Can't wait to see her down to her skivies. Maybe its a Texas Thang.
Veryolddog, unfortunately you are only allowed 2 technicals before they can throw you out. So all you may get from Kim is a jacket and a pair shoes. But on her way down the tunnel , who knows. :)

I agree that Karen Aston had a lot on her mind at the end of the game on Sunday. I would add that it probably occurred to her just how difficult it will be to climb the mountain to beat UConn.

The resurgence of TX WBB under Aston has been well documented. Two years ago they were beaten in the Sweet 16 by 51 pts. Last year they were beaten in the Elite 8 by 21 pts. This year, after setting up a challenging early season schedule, with games vs Stanford, MS ST and SC, against a "vulnerable" UConn team, TX took it right to the Huskies during the 1st 5 minutes. I honestly believe that Aston felt they had a great opportunity for a statement win vs the Huskies.

In the end, TX folded like a cheap suit, losing by 18. At this rate, it will be a decade before the Longhorns can compete with the Huskies. I suspect Aston was thoroughly disheartened by the loss.

The UConn Huskies not only beat you, they destroy a team's hope...

She could have adopted JPM's approach, but Geno doesn't have a jersey number. :D

I had forgotten that Texas finished second in the Megatron sweepstakes. Texas actually played UConn well last March in our closest tourney game. The prior March, they gave up and lost by 50. The thought of UConn having Megan, plus Azura, Batouly, Lexi, Andi, and Mikayla on top of this year's team (less Saniya and Tierney) must be depressing.

No telling if Texas finished 2nd or 3rd in the sweepstakes but I actually think that Megatron not choosing ND will have a more lasting impact on ND that it will Texas.
In the background music that is the ND mind there are a few sour notes that almost make this up coming game a "must win" for ND.
0) There was the preseason chirping by MM( and others) about how much UCONN had lost. UCONN vulnerable?
1) ND lost out on both Walker and Westbrook
2) Taya Reimer is gone and could have been a big advantage for ND in the game tomorrow.
3) Neile Ivy was in contention for the Georgia & Vandy HC jobs ,by all accounts she is ND's best recruiting tool. How long will she remain at ND?
4) Charli Collier picked UCONN
5) Improved competition in the ACC from FSU, Miami, and Duke. Yes Duke. (If Duke can beat SC they can beat ND)
6) How much does the NCAA Stanford loss linger for ND.

I can see why people would think Karen Aston's "blow by" Geno might be personal, but I don't think so. And that's from watching her at the end of many, many games. That's just her style. I'm always half-expecting her to pat the other coach on the back or give them a half-hug or something warm and friendly, but she is super business like at that moment, no matter who the coach is. I doubt she has any personal issues with Geno, other than respect. On the other hand, I don't she how she could NOT have issues with Kim Mulkey, given things Mulkey has said about her.
