By BETH RUCKER AP Sports Writer Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart says the Southeastern Conference will expand again and officials at each school need to have a number of frank discussions before moving forward.

Age old question of when and who. My guess soon because a 6/7 league division in the mighty SEC won't be toleratef by the big boys.

This was to be expected, no conference works at odd numbers. Question becomes, is it 14 or 16.

The SEC just cost their future members a bunch of money by not getting this done by tomorrow. The ACC lockup fee goes from $12 to $20 on 10/1.

I thought it had gone up already? Perhaps the ACC schools are safer than they appear if the SEC didn't bother to after one by now.

When your bogey is close to $30 million a year in the out years, the list gets pretty short of teams that can pull their own weight. On some level, the SEC doesn't care and could grab a WVU just because the football and basketball are good. On another level, if you were the SEC, where would you go first? I'd start with Florida State and Georgia Tech. Locking down Florida and Georgia would be big.

The SEC has 75% of Georgia locked down already. Getting Florida State would be a gigantic get as they are the last southeastern powerhouse not already a member of the SEC.

WVU is good enough athletically, but they don't offer much of a market so I doubt they could bring in ~ 30 million by themselves. Could they go after Virginia Tech? Blacksburg isn't a major market but it would get the SEC a strong footprint in Virginia.

Being the third rate basketball team and second rate football team in Raleigh is a huuuuuuuuuuugeeee market grab? Don't forget football is not sport #1 in the triangle.

UNC or VTech would be great adds, but I don't see either abandoning their in-state rivals, and by extension, each other.

I'm not saying that NC State to the SEC isn't insane.. that isn't going to happen in 10,000 years. What I don't get is why people don't understand that their football program is much more popular locally than Carolina. They are godawful right now, but their fanbase is light years ahead of UNC.
