Company statement:

Skip Bayless has decided to leave ESPN when his contract expires at the end of August.

His final appearance on First Take will be the day after the NBA Finals conclude.

We want to thank Skip for his many contributions to ESPN. His hard work and talent have benefited ESPN for 12 years.

Mike Tirico and Skip Bayless both announced as leaving in consecutive days. Could ESPN be unloading huge contracts to clear up room for media rights (probably a B1G TV deal)?

Makes perfect sense. He's a great fit.

Take a look at this FS1 Lineup:

Colin Cowerd

11-1 AM:
Skip Bayless

I think that's a win for ESPN.

Jamie Horowitz is getting quite a few ESPN refugees to flee to Fox Sports.

Fox is taking a gamble hoping these big name talents will eventually attract larger audiences, because as of now their ratings are horrible. Perhaps with the Big Ten rights combined with more prominent on-air talent they'll eventually be a viable alternative to ESPN.

But more likely, they're trying to use ESPN's blueprint from 20 years ago - a plan that is sure to fail in today's media landscape.

$5 million for Skip Bayless? That's asinine. If these sport media conglomerates keep spending like they have, the sport media bubble will soon pop. This arms race is escalating out of control.
