Maryland was pissed about having Notre Dame shoved down their throats. And they were not the only ones. If the B1G took Maryland, they will probably take another.

So let's entertain the following, even if it is far fetched and unlikely.

1. Maryland and another ACC School get sucked in the the B1G

2. The ACC subsequently has to replenish and they take UConn and Rutgers.

3. The Big 12 pulls the trigger on Louisville and Cincy.

4. The "New" Big East collapses as a football conference.

Even more far fetched and unlikely.

1. Maryland and UConn move to the B1G together.

2. Rutgers goes to the ACC.

3. The Big 12 expands again and takes Louisville and Cincy.

How about this?

1. Maryland and UVA get sucked in the the B1G

2. The ACC subsequently has to replenish and they take UConn and Rutgers.

3. The Big 12 pulls the trigger on FSU and Clemson.

4. The Big Five decides that ACC not be party of their club.

Might as well stay in the Big East under those terms.

Mods should combine this thread with the Hot Stove thread on the conference realignment section.

Why does the ACC have to replenish at all?

Because they want to have a championship game with 10,000 people in the stands.

If two leave, they're still at 12 and accomplish that.

That's true. I would say that for some reason they want 14 schools for football.

I can say that being in the ACC would be a relief, but it wouldn't be something that I would tremendously excited about.

I actually see leagues contracting not expanding in the future. With the playoffs, I think the championship game will become a burden and conferences might cancel them altogether. The Big12 is having a very exciting season this year because all the teams play each other. KState has a very good chance of going to the National Championship game because they wont have to play OU again.

Are these the same twitter sources that have been dead wrong on just about every realignment rumor imaginable?

If Maryland goes to the Big 10, Rutgers goes with them. The ACC may not expand unless the big 12 raids the ACC.

I think the ACC would think twice about staying at 12. If it's Maryland and RU, I don't see them staying at 13 - that's just an unwieldy number for football (basketball would be 14 with ND). I would be curious as to the status of their TV contracts if they lost one or two teams versus replacing them and maintaining their numbers.

Yeah I saw somewhere the language of the contract made it seem like the ACC would be pretty likely to add more schools if they lost members. This was back when FSU/Clemson were rumored to be flirting with the B12.

The ACC might grab UL instead to keep the football people a little happier-----total nightmare scenario. My hope is that the B1G looks to own the east coast metropolis areas with UConn, RU, MD and UNC or UVA. Warde Manuel better be working the phones.

If the ACC didn't take WVU because of academics, I'd guess they'd also pass on Louisville. Well, I hope they would anyway.

It's been stated on this board and on others that Louisville probably doesn't have the academics to go to the ACC or Big 10. If they go, it's the Big 12 or (less likely) SEC.

Something could happen BEFORE the Big East contract is signed..we shall see..IF the B10 and ACC want to do something it will be before this TV deal is done. The B10 NEVER tips its hand and Rutgers has been in continual contact with b10 for awhile..since September..Not that this means it 'will' happen..
