That's not bad at all. I went to the AAC tourney at the Mohegan Sun. Had a long thread on it a while ago and overall really liked it there - better than Hartford, and no "ooooooooooooone shot" the entire tourney, nor did i have to hear about my "chocolate meeting your peanut butter...Reeeeseeees" (he pronounced Reese's strangely)...

Not a bad start for the New-Kid-On-The-Block.

Actually, it is much better than "not bad at all."

As an exampe, these are the raw numbers:

ACC: Notre Dame vs. Duke in Greensboro, N.C. March 9 drew 8,190
AAC: UConn vs. Louisville in Uncasville, CT March 10 drew 8,034

These are the capacity numbers:

ACC: 23,000
AAC: approximately 10,000

Look at the percentage filled relative to capacity. The AAC cleaned up.

Hmmm..

AAC next year... UConn vs perhaps USF??? I suspect the attendance for this might not be anywhere near a UConn -Louisville final...

The AAC number would be a lot lower if not held in CT.

The member schools are pretty far flung. It would be hard to find a venue where any school outside of the state of Florida (which has three member schools) would get a large fan attendance for the Tournament. Except UConn, for obvious reasons. The new conference will take time to build a tourney following.

Actually for the Women they drop the black curtain down (thank goodness) and reduce the capacity to around 11,500 or so..... here is a pic i took at this years tourney. Its actually a fairly intimate setting, and there isnt a bad seat in the house. I was in the upper deck for the first time since 2008... but those seats are still good ones.... plus they installed a big HD scoreboard last year.
