Someone mentioned recruiting cycles one one of the threads. I thought I would look at the incoming recruiting classes since the Sue, Swin, Ashja, Tamika (Keirsten) class came to UConn in the Fall of 1998 (wow! Was it really that long ago?). Anywho, who can spot a trend?

Fall of
1998 - Bird, Cashm Jones, Walters, Williams
1999 - Johnson (transferred out)
2000 - Battle, Conlon, Moore, Taurasi, M. Valley
2001 - A. Valley
2002 - Crockett, Strother, Turner, Wolff
2003 - Wright, Robinson, Sherwood - all transferred out
2004 - Houston, Swanier, Thomas
2005 - Greene, Kerns, Montgomery, Williams
2006 - Charles, Fernandes, Gardler, McLaren
2007 - Dixon, Moore
2008 - Buck, Doty, Hayes
2009 - Faris
2010 - Dolson, Engeln, Hartley, Johnson, Walker (3 transferred out)
2011 - Banks, KML, Stokes
2012 - Jefferson, Stewart, Tuck
2013 - Chong
2014 - Edwards, Ekmark, Williams

Can anyone see the trend?

Sorry, I'm not up enough on individual UConn players to help here, but I do have a comment on recruiting cycles.

Sometimes, it is inherent in the coaching staff's plans - while I don't agree with the concept, CVS once explained that she tries to recruit a group that will play together for a long while, and just fill in spots with recruits between mega classes. Of course, it also doesn't always happen the way a coach wishes.

You are missing Samarie Walker in 2010. The even number years have more recruits.

You really are missing some. 2002 Goring, 2008 DelleDonne, 2010 Walker, what about the addition of players like Hunter, Saddiq, McCormick......... There are others I know I missing. Could you imagine if DelleDonne and McCormick had stayed at UCONN? Or if Brittany had not gone to Duke and been injured and forced to play... what type of career she could have had.

My thought is that large classes are often followed by smaller classes. Also, UCONN already has a super 2014 class. It is a great class even if no one else from 2014 commits.

You're close.

When Geno signs a blockbuster class, it's been typical that the next recruiting class is small and has players that aren't too highly ranked by the services. An exception is obviously the Tina class followed by Maya's but there's nothing typical about Maya.

My point is this - players want to, well, play. If recuits look at the roster and see a Diana, Tina, Maya, Kaleena, or Breanna playing the same position as her and just a freshman or a sophomore to boot, the recruit is going to wonder how much she'll play. It takes a rather extraordinary person to say, "I'll wait until X graduates and then my day will come", especially when that person is 16 or 17 years old.

I don't intend for this thread to denigrate any recruit that's passed on UConn to go elsewhere. It's absolutely human nature to want a chance to shine now rather than defer it to the future. That's why UConn has had uneven recruiting - great year followed by ok or maybe good year. Human nature - no reason to say the sky is falling.

Every one player class won a NC their freshman year. Saniya is unlikely to break the pattern.

Every five player class won an NC two years later and four years later.
