In the press conference, Geno mentioned the regional held in Storrs, and said "it was actually better than the Final Four we went to".

For those who don't remember, it may be worth a reprise.

One of the four teams was Alabama, a team who hasn't been strong recently, so might not be an obvious choice as a powerful team, but Alabama had 20 wins, was in the SEC, a conference which, at the time, was probably the strongest conference in the country. They had made the Final Four in the prior year, just missing the chance at an NC game with a three point loss to La Tech.

The three seed was Virgina, coached by Geno's then relatively recent boss. Virginia ran the table in the ACC, winning all 16 games, and had an overall record of 24-4. They were a national power at the time, with Final Four appearances in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

The two seed was Louisiana Tech, the team that just missed, due to an incredible buzzer beater by Charlotte Smith, being the defending national Champion.

The three other teams in the Storrs regional had all been to the Final Four more recently than UConn.

The three other teams in the Final Four, Tennessee, Georgia and Stanford, were certainly no slouches, but they had zero Final Four teams in the prior two years, and only Stanford with an appearance in 1992 saved them from a three year blank stretch.

It still may be a bit of hyperbole to say the four in Storrs were stronger than the four in Minneapolis, but not by much.
