A choice comment from Geno about Molly, responding to a question about whether she can be the one who steps up during Crystal's temporary absence:
"She makes just enough shots to make you think she can help you and she makes just enough plays," Auriemma said. "Then she's 100 miles per hour and she completely self destructs when she's out there. Somewhere, we've got to find that middle ground so she can make a little bit of an impact, however many minutes, and not get into that self destruct mode where she's struggling to get anything done."
His next quoted comment, about the team generally, was equally interesting in comparison to that one:
"From now until the end of March, they're not getting any bigger, they're not getting any quicker, they're not getting any faster, they're not getting any stronger," Auriemma said. "The only thing they can get is a little bit smarter. So if they can get a little bit smarter and start to see things a little bit quicker and start to react to things a little bit quicker, that will give them more confidence and then they'll get better."
I'm starting to understand why freshman guards have a tough time getting onto Geno's trust list: they have to see things quickly and react to things quickly, but not go 100 mph and self-destruct. Even someone with offers from Ivy League schools might have trouble squaring that circle.
