He left on a lurch...kinda like Edsall. I get it.

That's not really horrible in the land of D-1 coaching.

An institution simply has to do what Western Kentucky did; essentially put into the contract a 1.2 million dollar payback if you break the terms of the contract, payable in monthly installments over a six month period. UConn could make a similar contract. Hell, we could probably pay the 1.2 million dollar buy-back if we really felt strongly enough. Pretty simple, really. Right now, Petrino's contract is a little over 800k if I'm not mistaken, and PP's is over 1.6 million, so the math there is pretty easy...

Edsall left low class. No argument from me. But, to compare the moral and ethical fiber of Randy Edsall and Petrino is laughable to me. I know I am coming across as being on a high horse on this, but when you roll the dice on someone with the character issues this man appears to have, you take huge institutional risks. My bet is that Herbst would squash it before it ever got going. I know I would.......

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying to hire the guy. I'm saying I wouldn't be opposed to hiring the guy, knowing that he is an excellent football coach.

If his big character flaw is leaving institutions high-and-dry on contracts, as I mentioned before, that's easy to fix. I just don't want a Mike Leach type, where student safety could be compromised...

Agree 100%. Bring us a guy who has proven he can win wherever he goes. It crosses the line when he starts compromising the kids' safety.

Sorry, but I have to disagree regarding Edsall... He left in a pretty crappy way, but he did not leave in the middle of the season when he was sucking like a Hoover like Petrino did.

I am not against hiring Petrino, but I have to think that there are other options out there who don't reek of slime. I agree it has to be a splash hire, but three years later being on probation doesn't help. With our luck with the NCAA I would be careful.

Well, I'm not even going to argue the point, because there is no way Petrino is ending up at UCONN. Coaches like him thrive in environments where controls and academics are overlooked (Louisville, SEC). Both he and this administration realize that.

And that's exactly why UConn needs him. We are trying to get a Power Conference invite. We are not an Ivy League School. Louisville is certainly not worse off for having him. Hire Petrino now.

Yup - our fans can be our own worse enemy @ times... Why give BM more ammo??

Just got a classic text from UConn alum: "I can't wait for UConn to hire a Petrino - Bobby or Paul"

BTW - Paul's Idaho team got thumped by North Texas today 40-6.

I'm intrigued by Mike Bellotti. He's the guy that built Oregon (admittedly with Nike money) but Chip Kelly gets the credit. He may have a desire to try to do it again.
Mike is nearly 64 years old, has millions in the bank and is making a fortune on TV. He has been a west coast guy his entire life. Why in the world would he want to take on a nascent east coast program in a questionable conference ?

Like him or hate em, you can't argue Petrino is a damn good coach. There are no 3-5, year "rebuilding plans" with this guy. He simply goes in, and institutes his system. And wins.

Petrino had zero "character issues" while at Louisville - at least as far as players were concerned. That was the hype, not the reality. People tried explaining Kragthorpe's failures as somehow connected to Bobby P and it simply wasn't the case. He was his own unique brand of FAIL - the likes of which make your current coach look like a relative genius. Petrino is about to go somewhere and stick around - it may even be at Western Kentucky. His family is tired of the constant moving. Pay his buyout, sign him for $2 mil and watch your program grow.

Really can't believe people would be against Petrino.

When- when- he leaves, it'd be based on a level of success. After last night, you wouldn't sign up for that?
Uconn needs some who can be here for 2 or more seasons. And I don't think he left Atlanta after success.

The girl at Arkansas was in her late 20's wasn't she? Sure he broke some state laws getting her the job but it wasn't like she was some 19 year old sophomore.

If he wants to coach here and date 19-year old sophomores, or even if he wants to make them offensive coordinators, I'm okay with that.

Personally I'd prefer he wait until they turn 21 before banging any of them and I would have it written in his contract that he is allowed only one coed per victory (of course with a bonus of four underclasswomen of his choice for each BCS Bowl win). Beyond that I'm with you. I can look away as he defiles a small portion of our female student body if he can get us into college football big time.

It wasn't even against the rules at UConn for professors to bang their students until a few weeks ago.

If some enterprising young ladies take advantage of their leverage more power to them.
