Yea. Great games!

Question for the SEC fans on the board!

How is it that Auburn and Florida, conference foes, have never met this season until the semifinals of the WCWS?

Do all the SEC teams not play each other at least once?

SEC Plays 24 Conference Games, yet all teams play in the neighborhood of 55 games excluding playoffs. There's no reason why each SEC team shouldn't play each other. Probably don't do it, so they don't beat each other up and get more teams in the Playoffs. Also it looks like they play three games against teams on their schedule and play them on Sunday/Monday. Probably do that to reduce the travel schedule. Solution play less Out of Conference Games and play Conference Teams. Sure the Softball fans would prefer it.

Just checked Oregon's schedule and they played 24 Conference Games and played all conference teams.

No...they don't play every team in the regular season. I do think they rotate who they play each year tho.

56 game max; the amount actually played varies for schools in bad weather areas.

In any case, the PAC, SEC, ACC and B1G all play 24 game schedules, that is, 8 @ 3 games each series against conference opponents, so only in the PAC - where only 9 teams play softball - does this mean all teams meet. The Big 12 has only 7 schools that play softball, so they play an even shorter conference schedule.

I'm not sold on conferences playing everyone, because in-conference games are often 3 game series. Also, the majority of the out-of-conference games - I would guess at least 20 - are usually racked up in 4 tourneys. For example, Arizona hosts 2 tournaments each year, mostly "little sisters" although last year Alabama was one of the teams, and plays annually in 2 major tourneys, the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City and the Judy Garmin in Fullerton, although the Mary Nutter is the premier tourney, including like 20 - 30 of the top teams. Arizona played Kentucky, Oklahoma, LSU, Missouri and Northwestern this past year, you get to pick the "strength" of your schedule. The Garmin included Florida, Auburn and Baylor as Arizona opponents plus 2 other decent teams.

Tennessee, as an example, played in the Kennesaw St. tourney (4 games), USF tourney (5 games), Mary Nutter (5 games), Tennessee Classic (cancelled, weather, 5 games) and Tennessee Invitational (6 games). A 36 game conference schedule would mean not playing in this many tourneys.

Wouldn't SEC Softball Fans prefer 12 more games against SEC Conference teams, then using a basketball term CupCakes. Wouldn't there be more likely that ESPN would televise the Conference Games, thus helping Softball overall. SEC Softball is just like SEC Football, play enough cupcakes to automatically qualify for the Playoffs. SEC should be better than that, since they claim they are the best. Majority of the SEC WBB Basketball teams also play some of the worse OOC Schedules in the country. I'm not including the Lady Vols, although their OOC schedule seems to be getting easier as years go by. Not as tough as when Pat was the coach.
