Can anyone suggest a good table top keyboard suited for a beginner hoping to learn to play the piano?

A quick google search came up with this (below) which is in the ballpark of what i am looking for, but my primary objective is to learn to play - quality of sound isn't really an issue at this point. Trust me ... Quality of sound will not be an issue for some time.

Bottom line - I am looking for just the keyboard - something I can bring to school and practice early, and keep at home to practice when I can't sleep. Ideally having an instructional feature.

Suggestions from anyone other than fishy are requested, and would be greatly appreciated.

Casio has some nice beginner keyboards you can find them at Amazon. I would also check Musicians Friend, I use them for all my musical needs, they ship free and right now they are offering 10% off orders over $79.00 12% off orders over $249.00 They have professional boards for thousands, but if you look you'll find Yamaha, Casio and others in your price range. Things to consider. Get something with Full size Piano keys. Bigger keys make it easier for new fingers, less of a chance of hitting wrong notes. Some have built in lessons and songs to play along with. Also size, portable might not mean carry around to school if it's 4 feet long. You will need a carry bag too. They are around $40.00 This one should suit your needs for $115.00

Note that if you have an iPad, there is a free working keyboard available. You probably want something more, but free, and always handy is hard to beat.

The Yamahas are good for what they are. Falcetti's usually has lots of them on display and it might be worth sizing them up if they will indeed be profitable.

I'd recommend the Casio PX-130 which is on close out. Many are available lightly used or B-stock via Ebay for around $350. This is a semi-pro piece with the best Piano and Electric Pianos sounds under $500 (and better than many $1,000 boards). No frills. Piano keys. NO battery. No learninh tools. Just raw tone --- the only keyboard I'd recommend under $500.00. Not much 1-finger fun that's for sure but it qualifies as a semi-pro piece of gear.

The Casio PX-330s has more bells and whistles (180 rhythms). You can score a i\used one on Ebay for $425 Easily the way to go for both sound and fun. The other things are toys.

If it's piano you want to play, make sure that which ever keyboard you buy has weighted keys. You want it to feel like a piano, not an organ. Also, you want to get one that's full sized - 88 keys.
