Last night the problem with the pitching and hitting was not a lack of consistency - it was an absence of quality. OTOH, the defense was generous - the Yankees don't need the gift of five outs in any single inning.

I have figured out why the Red Sox are in last place. All the other teams are better.

Simple case of incredibly bad decisions by management, not worthy of recitation or analysis here. Result: Except for two young catchers, one inconsistent starting pitcher, one infielder, one outfielder and one utility player, the roster is cluttered with aging, overpaid, or under-performing players. They stink.
