OT: food recomendations at Foxwoods

Since Gregg Allman is hospitalized and the double header show at the Meadows got cancelled....I'm now heading with some guys to the ZZ Top show at Foxwoods Grand theater next Friday.....I know Mohegan Sun inside and out....but wondering what people recommend for food near the theater. Thanks.

So it may be a bit pricy, about $24 a plate but the festival buffet at Foxwoods is great. Any cuisine you could want and generally good quality food, not your usual small time buffet/diner food.

The Lounge at Cedars. Don't need Reservations and you can get a good lobster roll with fries (substitutions permitted - mashed, or even a veg if I recall). Lots of great food in the lounge if you don't mind that at least part of it is smoking. Lot better prices than Cedars main room.

Also, the other steak house - David Burke - is very much hit or miss from what I have been told.

I would recommend Cedars or Al'dente. Golden Dragon if your into Asian. Paragon, if you have some money to spend...David Burks is ok.. Juniors, if want to do the deli thing is pretty good as well..

It's all my fault. I wished out loud that I'd rather see Top solo than waste time with Gregg Allman, I shoulda wished for UConn to the B12. Anyway, we are going to stop at Harry's Place in Colchester on the way down.

LOL .....When the ZZ/Allman show was announced, we joked whether ZZ Top would make it through the summer with Dusty Hill's recent history of injuries on tour. And as it turns out, it's Gregg Allman who gets ill. I wish him well.

I was never a big fan of the Foxwoods buffet. I think the Mohegan Sun buffet is way better. I have not eaten at the Foxwoods buffet in a few years so maybe they changed some things. Ala Strada at the Fox Tower (formerly MGM Grand) is very good but a little pricey. As far as casino buffets, I think the Harrahs buffet in Atlantic City is the best way to get your moneys worth. It comes to $37 with tax but the main draw is the all you can eat crab legs. The Borgata buffet in Atlantic City is great as well...no crab legs but very high quality food/seafood for a buffet.

I've never been disappointed at Burke's. Best Steak in CT in my experience.

I'd second Cedars, Al Dente, and Golden Dragon... all very good. The Hard Rock is actually pretty decent if you're after a burger and don't mind the music...

As to the buffet... I've been to the one at Foxwoods a few times... twice it was pretty good... once it was horrendously bad... just incredibly awful. I won't go back it was that bad.

I've never been disappointed at Burke's. Best Steak in CT in my experience.

Then you have a more valid opinion than I do. I was just going by what I heard guests say, and other staff had seconded it. Realistically, any place as high end as Cedars or Burke really should be able to hit a home run, and it isn't hard for a good lineman to cook to proper temperature.

I will try it at some point, then. (But, like I said, I really do like getting my fill at the lounge price with the quality still being on point).

Old people boil the hell out of everything. I remember eating all the boiled stuff at my grandma's then as she was getting around 90 years old and we didn't want her cooking anymore, we would order up incredible New Jersey italian food for the holidays. We are all feasting on eggplant rollatini, lemon chicken, veal parm, shrimp parm etc. and my grandma still would sneak off to boil a pot of carrots and cauliflower to pass around.

I hadn't been to Foxwoods in years but I went to Boz last night and noticed this place on RT2 just a few miles away - Pistol Pete's Bar and Grill. Look's like my kind of place. How can you not like a place that has Jack Off Monday's?

How was Boz? I saw him at Jazz Fest this year for the first time in over 20 years and thought he was still pretty great.
