"The "let's blow it up and start over" process to rebuild the Colts is officially underway. The team released Peyton Manning Wednesday, and two days later they cut ties with just about every other veteran on the roster. Gone are linebacker Gary Brackett, tight end Dallas Clark, running back Joseph Addai, safety Melvin Bullitt and quarterback Curtis Painter."

Donald and Dan O survive...

Edit - yes I know Freeney is spelled wrong. Can't edit topic.

Good for Donald and Orlovsky.

The Colts are going to be bad next year. The team around Andrew Luck might be even worse than what was around Painter/Orlovsky. We'll see how many games he can win.

Do they let Dan O start 4-5 games before they see if Luck is ready to be "good or bad"?

Would think this solidifies Donald's spot as a starter with a team looking to run first to protect their new franchise QB.

I'm just hoping Dan O and Donald stay, heck it would be nice to see Lutrus be signed back to the practice squad.

Clark Judge from CBS Sports was Joe D."s guest last night on WTIC Spotrstalk. He was asked the question on whether the Colts would have Andrew Luck standing on the Sidelines to start the season or start from the getgo. His answer was that, in his opinion, the Colts would throw luck into the deep end of the pool right away & let him learn on the fly. He cited Atlanta & the Rams as examples.

Coachcap.

They also did exactly the same thing with Peyton. Shy of an injury, Luck will take his lumps as starting QB from day one with the (at least in the Colts' eyes) idea being it will be the quickest path to his being a true top QB is getting a number of games under his belt as quickly as possible.

The system that luck played in college was based on power running. Implementing this type of system would protect Luck much more than the current Indy system. They still need to be careful with him as they are also in the process of rebuilding their terrible offensive line.

No team in their right mind would trade for Freeney, mainly because of the huge salary he is owned. ANd the Colts have zero leverage in trade talks considering Freeney has shown a big reluctance to stand up in Chuck Pagano's 3-4 scheme. He is going to be cut.

I though Donald Brown showed he could be an NFL starter when he was given his chance last year. And Dan proved he could be a serviceable backup. If he isn't back with the Colts, he will surely latch on with another team.

There is zero doubt Luck will be their starter, barring injury, in every game next season. Add to the Atlanta (Matt Ryan) and Rams (Sam Bradford) examples, you have Flacco in Baltimore, Newton in Carolina, and Dalton in Cincy who have all had successful rookie seasons as starters. And Luck has a higher pedigree than all of them. He would have been drafted over Newton #1 last season, and now he has another college season under his belt.

I agree.. I think Dan o was put in to lose games to get luck but the colts became more competitive which kind of backfired on them. I see Dan getting cut or the backup because he definitely only helped himself last year. Don brown may finally emerge if they go power running game which would be great for him

Think of what Dan O and Donald did down the stretch. They played particularly well. If the Colts had any D at all they would have beat New England. The only reason Painter stayed was because he was Manning's boy and Dan O was not. Time after time announcers just said that Dan O made good or difficult throws. Donal just looked better and better as the year progressed. The Colts would be crazy not to have them on the team next year.
