Not sure I've ever seen a big game pitcher like this guy, if it went 12 innings he still wouldn't have given up a run. Scary first round matchup for the Cubs.

Looked like the best pitcher in baseball, mets hitters were lost and to boot he almost cranked one off familia (who unexpectedly came in and blew the game). I have some bizarre feeling the Giants are entering a hot streak ending in the World Series

True statement, except for the unexpectedly part.

The word legend gets tossed around more than it should in sports. MadBum has reached mystical levels of postseason dominance at this point. One of these days, he's just gotta get shelled, right? Maybe it'll happen against Chicago?

Well it is an even year.Head bang Geez this guy is ridiculous in the postseason. Cubs need to take at least games 1 and 2 before he even gets a chance to pitch.

Agreed, Cubs need to take the first two in Chicago. Bumgarner is a guaranteed win at this point, guy is superhuman.

    Believe in EYBS!

Hope they go all the way again. Anything to give the Cubs another year of suffering. Cubs fans have gone from benign affable baseball junkies to obnoxious entitled douchenozzles since last year's WC game. Worse than Nats fans. Win something, then you can brag all you want.

Familia is the reincarnation of Armando Benitez. Ugh.

I feel your pain brother, and I understand the analogy given the high wire he often walks getting himself out of jams, but I think that assessment is a bit harsh to Familia given his performance generally.

Hats off to Thor for equaling Bumgarner for his seven innings. Not too many guys you expect to go the complete game; unfortunately for us, Bumgarner is the best in the game in that situation.

True, but the Mets offense is horrendous. Cespedes is awful and he's beloved there. Glad to see the Mets go away again for a season.

I watched him when he was with the Sox too. He's awful. Bad clubhouse guy, awful defensive outfielder, makes a spectacular throw here and there that is usually because he's out of position or misplays a ball. Awful in clutch, was 3-20 in 2015 WS with 1 RBI.

You can keep him for $27.5M/yr for 2 more, or hope he opts out..

So, he's not a bad clubhouse guy at all. He played 51 games for the Sox, so I'm guessing you maybe saw half those games. He has a gold glove. As of September's numbers, he hit .286 with runners in scoring position with 50 RBI and a .648 slugging %. On a Mets team that hit .218 RISP,

He's an awful defensive outfielder. He has a great arm so that makes up for a lot. Plays way too deep. Misplays tons of balls, late jumps, etc.

He's the 2nd highest paid position player in baseball, just behind Miggy.

No surprise he was 0-4 with 2 SOs in a huge spot last night, never thought he'd do anything there, just like WS last year.

I'm probably bias because I listen to WFAN too much and the fans and hosts fawn over him.

You're wasting your time with a Sox fan, Deep. Second most myopic fans in all of sports, behind only Pats fans. Guessing this one is both.

No one rides former players out of town quite like the pink hats.

Actually hats off to the Giants hitters who brought Thor's pitch count up to where they had to take him out. Mets hitters weren't quite as patient and Bumgarner's pitch count was equal to Thor's at games end. Familia couldn't get Panick out which might have forced SF to pinch hit for Bumgarner. Familia had no command of the strikezone with any of his pitches. Oh well great game and I give both teams a lot of credit overcoming injury during the year to get to that game. I cannot imaging the Mets pitching staff next year if all are healthy!

That's what was said of them this year. Harvey may never be the pitcher he was projected to be and Matz seems like a Dr. Andrews visit away from a 2 year hiatus. We'll see...

Let's try to separate the fact that JSM is a Sox fan from the fact that he's a moron . . .

The Mets offense isn't horrendous. It actually is probably better than SFs at this point.

Cespedes is a clutch player? He's earned being the 2nd highest paid position player in baseball? A career .272 hitter and average to poor defensive outfielder.

He's hit .207 in 58 postseason ABs as a Met with 2 HRs and 8 RBI.

My favorite Met is Travis d'Arnaud, 2016 season of 4 HRs, 15 RBI and a terrible defensive catcher. Mets fans on the FAN were comparing him to Johnny Bench or Piazza last year.

I just heard all this Mets stuff on the FAN yesterday and was thinking zero way they win and be shocked if they score more than a run. I gave them too much credit.

No real idea what this means

Sox got Procello for Cespedes, I'll take it so far. See if he can have some post season success unlike Cespedes. Cespedes is an undisciplined player, did anyone really see that translating to postseason success?

10 seconds ago, I hit send on an email to a Mets-fan co-worker that said: "Familia always gave me a Benitez vibe."
