What they say, and what I read:

"the highest athletic graduation rate among public universities in this country" -- the lowest graduation standards for athletes among all public universities in the country.

"The Big 12 is the only conference in the southern part of the United States that doesn't have a footprint in the Sunshine State." -- the B1G is the only conference in the eastern part of the United States that doesn't have a footprint in the Sunshine State. The Pac is the only conference in the western part of the United States that doesn't have a footprint in the Sunshine State.

"UCF is the second-largest university in the country with more than 60,000 students." -- UCF has the second-lowest admission standards of any university in the country.

"President Hitt points out that less than 10 percent of kids from the lowest socio-economic quartile will earn a college degree while more than 80 percent of kids from the highest quartile will earn those same degrees."That statistic hasn't changed in decades," Hitt says. "We think it has to change."" -- UCF plans to lower its graduation standards even further.

"UCF to the Big 12. It's academic." -- True! Thinking about it is an academic exercise only.

Thread title is a bit misleading...I thought it was actually from UCF. It's just the Jacobs of Orlando with an opinion.

This loser writer Bianchi has written a bunch of really strange columns/articles ... and here's another one. I don't know - nor does he - what this does for a B12 Network. I suppose they (UCF) are not in the news as a prime candidate because they don't bring the dough into the coffers.

Bianchi is much more respected than Jacobs and has much better connections than Jacobs.

For the record, I kinda like UCF's begging more than Cincy's begging. Gonna go whore? Go full bore whore. Don't pretend you're an escort.

Didn't someone explain to the writer that the importance of "academics" are just political correct cover words for the Big12. This is about money and whether UCF can bring more money to the B12 than the competition. Helping disadvantaged students and serving broad based educational needs are great as long as the B12 is getting paid more than they could by selecting someone else. Ummm, when it comes to academics, this is the Big12 not the BIG.

As for "going full bore whore" I am invoking the Tropical Thunder rule.... "Never go full retard"...see below

Where is this "respected" rankings list? I have never seen that.

My problem with Jacobs is NOT my problem with Bianchi. Jacobs - IMHO - is far more cultivated, worldly, broad-thinking and not as parochial. Look for Bianchi's clown columns on Jim Calhoun. My problem with Jacobs has always been that he puts his "SELF" interest at the forefront. It's about him.

"Respect" is subjective. But Bianchi's listings of Florida HS prospects will be quoted around the nation. He is well connected in southern high school and college football.

Sure ... he collects lists of mostly Florida kids and ranks them. I have reviewed them.

ON ANY TOPIC ... of national stature ... he's been an idiot. And more than occasionally, he has knocked dear old UConn. Orlando isn't much of a place. Disney and a bunch of old people. Little real business but lots of warehouses. When I read Jacobs, he actually has gravitas. (excepting the SELF problem) Honestly, we are watching a huge changing of the guard in sportswriters. I really don't know if we have anything to replace the ones that have retired in the last decade and in the coming few years.

Dear Big 12:

A writer of my stature should not be covering a G5 school. Please release me from this hell and provide a portal which elevates me to a level equal to my talent.

By the way, anyone of your schools need an SID?

Sincerely,

Your Friend in Orlando

PS. Please excuse clumsy wording, spelling and grammar errors. I went to UCF.

But don't all columnists do that to some extent? Overall, I think Jacobs is pretty fair and a good read.

When the Big East was reformulating for the first time, reps from UCF were calling everyone under the sun to try to get into the Big East....including people who owned message boards pertaining to current Big East teams.

It was a very, very odd conversation.

Ugh.
I never even heard of UCF until this mess.
I feel so dirty after reading about them.
The fact that I even have to care because of UCONN association disgusts me even more.

That's... Incredible. Any more oddities you can share?

Bianchi's column was douchey.

Which is a separate issue of whether or not he has a nice Rolodex for HS and college football coaches and administrators.

It's really hard to give a crap about your conference when none of the schools actually want to be in it.

The jockeying by members of the AAC reminds me of a scene out of Casablanca in Rick's bar. All the presidents and AD's of AAC members are hanging out looking to get a ticket on that plane to Lisbon and the hell out of the gulag.!

Maybe they thought, if a Massachusetts high school tennis player can get a Boneyard campaign, UCF can too.

Jacobs turns out some good columns, but when he makes himself and his various vendettas the centerpiece of them his work is tedious and whiny. I think that is what the other poster was referring to.
