The best word to describe De'Janaewhen it comes to basketball as "versatile". At 6'3" she is a natural at the wing and has the capability to play each position on the floor. She has been dominating in basketball for years and has recently started winning nationally, bringing home an AAU National Championship at the age of 10. A 1st Team All-Met in only her junior year she is no stranger to accolades, winning not only an AAU Championship but also a Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year Award, a Gold Medal while leading the USA U16 in the FIBA America’s Championship Tournament. De'Janae has not missed the eye of college coaches attracting offers from virtually every major school in the country to include North Carolina, Duke, Maryland and Louisville but she recently scaled down her list to fifteen schools. She currently holds a Top 10 ranking with ESPN Hoopgurlz and regionally holds the number one recruit spot with Next Sports Phenom.
De'Janae has had a phenomenal high school season, logging double-doubles virtually every
time she steps on the court despite facing double and triple teams each game. She averages over 21 points and 15 rebounds per game. She has averaged a double-double not only this season but throughout her high school career. The double–double is a given for her as she is on triple-double watch each game as she averages over 7 assists per game. Herversatility is an issue for the opposing defenses as her length and athleticism allows her to easily finish near the rim. Her three-point ability makes her a threat away from the basket and her height and her great vision allows her to find open teammates when being double-teamed.
De'Janae's parents, Jeff and Sheila can be regularly found in the stands at all of her games. Until she began high school, her father had been her primary coach. He has been her biggest influence as he helped master her skills on the court. The Boykin family is familiar to the sport of basketball as De'Janae's grandfather won a North Carolina State Championship in high school and her father played high school basketball locally at Mckinley Tech and received scholarship money to play in college as a walk-on, he instead chose to serve his country as a United States Marine. De’Janae sister, Janiesha stands 6'3" and played locally on the AAU circuit. This summer will be significant for De'Janae, as she travels the country on the club season basketball trail. You can be sure that there will be up to 50 college coaches on the sidelines each time she takes steps onto the court, all hoping that as her list of schools narrow they will still be on it.
