This is crippling to the Big East unless the Big 12 completely packs it in.

if there was ever a time for a cunning sell of the big east to kansas, ksu, isu, and baylor as a 12/20 format that could be braught to great heights under the wings of NBC, that they could be equal partners in a glorious union of scholastic cooperation, that they could be released from the subjugation of Texas and Oklahoma, that the pot of gold would arrive excactly as they entered the league (assuming thats when the new contract would start)!

now would probably be that time. tell em as it stands, neither conference will be safe long term, but if they join us they can finally put the worry of what might happen down the road behind them. Make the exit fee something in the ballpark of 30 bajillion dollars.

wish we had a ruthless, manipulative, conniving, sly SOB that could pull something like that off. a real sandbaggin SOB. If we could, basketball would be at worst even with what we have now (more likely a positive as kansas is better than cuse and pitt usually has the same amount of success during the turnament as NJIT has during the regular season), and football would be a positive.

Chip Brown has that as well.

The consensus rumor is a B12 President's meeting Sunday and Missouri Curators on Tuesday and then a formal decision.

Agreed. Baylor and ISU have shown interest in joining our league before. Why not add them now with both conferences down?

Oh, right: money. The Big 12 still has a massive television contract that won't go away until either Texas or OU leaves. Sorry, but I don't see your scenario happening. You never know though.

Ruh Roh is right. Most likely this means Mizzou to the SEC which is bad because it means no SEC raid of the ACC at the moment and the Big XII being more likely to raid the Big East.

I dont see it happening either. It requires leaps of faith. and faith is a commodity in short supplies these days. just saying it would be cool.

Aside from practicality though... if they joined the Big East in '13 wouldn't that be when the new contract starts?

Not that a merger with KState, ISU, or Baylor was ever too enticing and they may feel the same way of the left behind BE schools, your ship departed from port at least a few weeks ago.

According to Chip, Deaton is still Chair of the Big 12 Board of Directors, which seems a little more important than the expansion committee. This might be nothing more than Weiss not understanding the titles. Hard to tell.

Interesting theory out there that all the Missouri rumors are essentially coming from one source, the DeArmond family. Mike, the father, writes for the Kansas City Star. Gabe, the son, runs Power Mizzou. As the father pushes a rumor, the son markets that he has "inside" information, pushing subscriptions.

Just a theory, but Slive has said the SEC is stopping at 13 for now, Neinas said they are staying, yet there is still a lot of smoke around Missouri.

the B12 is not a stable conference either

I think everybody involved with the BE & B12 have to sit back and chill for now

unless one of the 3 more stable conferences call (PAC12 not an option)

it may not be enticing, it may not be sexy. I would most certainly rather have Syracuse and Pitt over ISU and Baylor. but eventually there will be 4 super conferences. SEC sources are already commenting about going to 16, and if that happens I cant see how the rest dont move. in that scenario there will be some people left out and you can bet they will be geographically isolated. better long term interests for all us "leftovers" to band together now, than run the risk of being left out later. prisoner's dilemma 101.

but on the other hand... maybe we'll be the last one asked to the prom. just seems foolish to take that chance, especially when a conference led football wise by WVU and TCU and basketball wise by Connecticut, Kansas, and Georgetown would certainly hold some national cachet. best of the worst, is better than just the worst.

Give the Missouri fans credit. They've introduced a whole new level of weirdness into this with the flight details of Chancellor Deaton to the SEC offices.

That's seems to be the logic going around, but I don't know if I believe that anymore. The PAC had their shot to go to 16 and couldn't reach an agreement with the Texas and OU group. The LHN was probably the deal breaker, but there were also grumblings about the conference being less California centric. That was probably the most appealing group of four schools they could add. What does it say that they couldn't pry OU, TT and OSU away from Texas? Or if they could, why didn't they take those three plus one more?

Hell, maybe the BE is should go after Texas. If we can put up with the ND situation, and the BB Onlies, why not toss in Texas and let them keep their LHN money. At least we'd never have to worry about BE FF losing AQ status ever again.

I agree with you. Most people are discussing their proposals based on the concept the 4 super conference is a given. There is a compelling argument for the 4 super conference model. But that argument doesn't guarantee the outcome. If it were such a compelling argument and if it were all about $$$, why would the players wait. Just do it and let the monies roll in now rather than two or three years down the road. The absence of the B!G in current events leaves me wondering if we are overstating the model. It seems like I hear the argument $$ are driving things but the conferences aren't acting like they are certain the super conference model is the best $$ arrangement otherwise the time frame would be complete by now.

There was pressure to increase the BCS to 7 conferences--either the MWC or MWC/C-USA playoff.

There' still a chance they can manipulate this down to 5 major conferences by encouraging the B12 to got to 14 and the SEC. That would be 66 teams plus Notre Dame somehow squeezing in and restore the balance.
