assuming US beats China and Turkey beats Croatia ...
(FIBA world rankings used)

#1 US (5-0) / #11 Canada (2-3) vs #3 Australia (4-1) / #7 China (3-2)
#8 France (5-0) / #4 Czech (2-3) vs -- Turkey (4-1) / #2 Russia (3-2)

Bottom half of the draw should be krazy!

We could end up playing Turkey for the gold, right?

I like that French team a lot. Beyond the "name" players (Gruda, DuMerc, Lawson-Wade) two that have captivated me are Yacoubou and Gomis.

Strange to see that bracket with no Brazil.

The French team has Kara Lawson and Margaret Wade? :)

This gets serious now. Pool play was just that--play. It is now NCAA single-elimination format.

I saw Beach VB on Friday. I got lucky in that randomly I got to see two U.S. matches. The women's "other" team beat what seemed like a solid Swiss duo. The U.S. men, who were the gold medalists in 2008 and went 3-0 in pool play, struggled and lost to an Italian team that was 1-2 in pool play. The bottom line--bring your A game and start quickly.

Go USA!

Predictions:

USA over Canada
Australia over China
France over Czech Republic
Turkey over Russia

USA over Australia
Turkey over France

Australia beats France for the Bronze
USA beats Turkey for the Gold

This sounds about right from what we have seen so far. The prophesized game between France and Turkey will be close. Playing Turkey, so far, it's been very good we are so deep.

I think Brazil would have made it if they hadn't cut Izi off the team. I feel for De Souza, she's one of my favorite players in the WNBA.

Aaahh! Don't you just love those romantic-sounding Gallic names? Gruda and Lawson-Wade ... Lawson-Wade and Gruda. Yacoubou and Gomis ... Gomis, Yacoubou.

How did DuMerc ever make the team? :)

I'll be at the France v. Czech and Turvey v. Russia games--until after midnight.
