While I am an Arsenal fan, I am not as attached to them as I am UConn, the Yankees or the USMNT; but, Saturday's match against Chelsea was the first time watching an EPL game that I had to start to read a book during the match because to distract me because if I didn't, I would have needed a new TV and/or my almost 9 year old son would have learned that word can be a verb, non, adjective, etc.
Costa's antics are foolish and what amazes me the most is that Glenn and a lot of other EPL officials let him get away with it. Gabriel was a fool for letting Costa get in his head; but, he was defending his teammate who was slapped, scratched and has his face pulled several times by Costa. Koscielny fell a little too easily when Costa chest bumped him; but, 99% of a time when a player does that after the whistle blows, its a yellow or even a red (Zidane anyone?). A halftime, the NBC folks basically summarized that Costa should have received 4 yellow cards in a 2 minute span and yet received just 1 - 2 for slapping, scratching, pulling at a players face twice, 1 for the chest bump (believed to be what he got a Yellow for), 1 for getting in the face of Gabriel before the heel flick after the chest thump when Gabriel was being dragged away.
The good news is that two days later, EPL has seen the tape (not sure what the Referee was watching) and it looks like Costa will be taking a force vacation. Good. I hope Chelsea loses every game while he is out.
