That was a spectacular effort by Miss Courtney Okolo !! Hats off !!! On further digging she won two other races in the same meet. She will be very good at the next level.

She was also interviewed briefly at this meet. A mature and articulate young lady she is.

Now that is a finishing kick! As a former 4 X 400 relay runner, this video brought back so many memories, some good (the wins) some not so good (I usually added some "organic matter" to the field after my leg in my senior year). I usually ran first leg, because my start out of the block was the best. But each leg is a full out sprint for 400 meters (yards back in my day, yes I am THAT old). How she was able to have enough left in the tank to kick it into a whole other gear boggles my mind.

Okolo btw ran a 52.40 400 the same day - the second fastest in the USA thus far this year. (Precious Holmes is 4th nationally thus far.)

Sydney Over [Windsor High]....maybe better suited for the 800. It would be a huge coup if UConn

Reminiscent of 2000 Sydney Olympics performance by Marion Jones (freshman on 1994 N. Carolina NC team that took #1 seed UCONN women out in the Elite 8). Sports Illustrated had a photo of a closely-bunched group of runners at the finish line - then you unfold the fold-out, and Marion is about 12 yards out in front of them all. Cheat-code fast!

It’s worth noting that Texas Tech is located in Lubbock, Texas and the 3,281 feet of altitude is slightly beneficial to 400-meter runners. The NCAA’s altitude conversion program adds .11 to 400 times in Lubbock, TX but we believe it still will count as the collegiate record.

She just ran a 50.03 open 400m a few weeks ago as a college sophomore, and Sanya Richards-Ross (the best American 400m runner for a while now) has a PR of 48.7 so I think the Ms. Okolo will be a serious threat to at least be on the US squad if not contend for a medal! She is just an amazing athlete.
