Hot rumor; B12 reps on UC campus this past Friday. Supposedly talking to UC FB and Basketball coaches specifically. Spotted at the Kingsgate Marriott by one of their board posters. Can't vouch for the rumor's trustworthiness.

Were they wearing their Big12 Reps jackets?
If true, they were probably there to personally escort Ono to the airport to make sure he gets on the plane to Vancouver. He was starting to get annoying.

It's really hard to imagine Cincinnati still being in any sort of expansion discussion with their President bolting town. A lot of the pro-Cincinnati relationships made within the B12 were because of Ono.

If (IF!) this is true, it's probably more of a "okay, your President is leaving and you're on really thin ice...why should we not scratch you off our list?" meeting.

That said, Cincinnati's plummeting chances probably also hurt our chances too. I think we make the most sense if the conference wanted a network (which they apparently do not) and if they made a strong eastward push. Knocking out the only other real P5ish candidate nearish to us might mean the B12 looks west at BYU and CSU/Boise for a football-only move. It's hard to imagine the B12 adding romper room Memphis and pairing them with us. It's also equally as hard imaging us paired up with one of the directional FL schools.

Fact check Dooley. They want a network, the networks don't want them.

Where did you see this rumor written?
Received it verbally from a UC grad. He told me that it's a rumor that is circulating around UC at the moment. He couldn't very whether or not it is trustworthy. I thought it was interesting enough to post.

Cincinnati's conference affiliation(s) will not hinge on Ono. They have been led by local business folks from early on. This i know for 100% certainty. Heck, a bunch of the b12 schools do not have presidents right now either.

i don't think these decisions are based on who's President or coach today. People come and go all the time for lot's of various reasons. a conference isn't going to expand because Joe Blow or whoever is the President.
Now, Ono leaving on the other hand...

Texas does not and because they hold all of the B12 cards, the conference does not. Transitive property.

A school president isn't going to up and leave for a new job if they are making the transition to the P5 table.

Since Half the B12 has interim presidents maybe his leaving helped their cause.

True. It will hinge on the fact they offer little to no value.

Eventually ESPN is going to get tired of the money that is being lost with the LHN, and demand some value for the money they are paying. Plus Texas being A**e* about the LHN is showing the rest of the country how no-one wants to watch. They are daily losing value if they were to be on the open market.

Haven't the Big 12 expansion rumors essentially been put to rest, at least for now?

Athletics are 1/10th of a president's job if that. A president doesn't seek a job at a P5, he/she seeks a job at a higher institution of learning. UBC is the #2 college in Canada, #33 in the world. While UC is a fine school, it's nowhere near that level.

Final decision on Y/N expansion by end of summer.
Yep the consensus is they may still be expanding but because of no network we're off the table.
I think they will expand .
The thinking that G5 schools lack attractiveness is a silly Construct based on current image which changes as soon as you prove competitive st the next level.

Agreed. I think they slowed things down and said what they did in order to cut down on the circus/frenzy. I don't think they liked the public lobbying and comments. It got out of hand. I doubt that much has changed, but they want to proceed behind closed doors, like every other conference has.

Why not? Canadian, Vancouver-native, family including father who was/is a professor, awesome city/surrounding area, huge Asian population and ties to high growth region and donations, markedly more respected, global research institution, and most likely higher comp to go with the opportunity. Or, stay in Cincinnati.

On top of that, does anyone think school Presidents want to deal with the nonsense that is big time college athletics? We are the only nation on earth, as far as I know, that links quasi-pro athletics to college/university in this way.
