Rutgers Big Ten Build

Pretty impressive. The goal is to raise $100 million. Over $54.5 million has been raised so far.

Rutgers is really going to transform itself over the next decade. That doesn't guarantee success on the field, but those are going to be some awesome facilities to compete in and to recruit. With the facilities in place and the B1G revenue, maybe Rutgers can turn itself around.

From the website............

The Vision
Rutgers is committed to building championship contenders in the Big Ten. This commitment means the university must build premier training facilities for elite student-athletes from New Jersey, the nation, and around the globe.

To fulfill this objective, Rutgers Athletics is embarking on the Big Ten Build, a comprehensive campaign to raise $100 million for new or upgraded athletic facilities.

Phase I of the Big Ten Build, created in collaboration with the University Physical Master Plan, includes three projects: a Multisport Training Complex adjacent to the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC), a Lacrosse, Soccer and Tennis Training Complex, and an enhanced Football Training Complex, at the Hale Center. These pivotal projects will result in additional square feet of critical training space and will have a dramatic and wide-ranging impact on all 24 Rutgers athletic programs and on the 600 student-athletes who represent Rutgers on a national stage.

The Big Ten Build will provide state-of-the-art practice centers for men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and gymnastics, as well as key support areas for football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer and tennis.

These facilities will meet a crucial need for high-performance training, exceptional academic support, first-class sports medicine, and critical shared pathways that will support a championship culture at Rutgers.

Rutgers Athletics’ core mission is to graduate student-athletes. To that end, the vacated space in the RAC will become a much-needed expanded academic center and gathering space for all 14 sports that train on the Livingston Campus.

As the newest member of the Big Ten, Rutgers has gained unparalleled exposure. The university’s ascent to national prominence will depend on your key support of this game-changing plan.

$25 million of that $54M is "tax credit?" What does that even mean?

I took a look at the link. It looks as if they are hoping to fund raise so that, someday, they can build less impressive versions of facilities that UConn already has. My response is to shrug. Modest plans for long overdue facilities...you'd think a B1G school would be more ambitious.

That said, as much as I enjoy mocking the inevitable RU fans who come here begging for validation, I think Rutgers is poised to take a quantum leap, athletically and academically. Being in the B1G maybe too good a deal even for Rutty to screw up. They did give it the ol' college try this year, though, didn't they?

So you don't think UCONN is likely a B1g candidate, but you are compelled to share Rutger's largesse on our Conference Realignment board. I call that textbook trolling.

They're claiming to be able to do a lot with $100 million. The New Cole Field House indoor football practice facility at Maryland is $155 million -- and that's just one project. Rutgers has a lot of ground to make up with its facilities.

Agreed. Their facilities are bottom of the conference, and desperately need to be addressed. That said consider me skeptical that they can accomplish what they list for the dollars quoted. This is NJ. Take whatever amount they claim and multiply it by 3 and you are probably closer to what it will cost.
