In the 80s, when title 9 came in, the $ did not follow it. The powers that be did not add to the infrastructure to address the womens program, they took away from the men's. It was clearly reverse discrimination. For better or worse, the men's programs were decimated. This lasted through the 80s to the 90s when funding finally started catching up. Old school men were impacted by it. Geno grew his program taking gym time from the men's program as well as other facilities (not that they didn't deserve to have some resources). His program expanded, while the Men's program contracted. For better or worse, that was the way it was. It did however have some lasting impacts to the program personnel that were impacted negatively.
I guess that's life.

Jim Calhoun started coaching UConn in 1986 and didn't make the NCAA tournament till the 89-90 season. Title 9 was approved in 1972. Again, Woof 101 said Calhoun was probably against Title 9 and I am young (36) and should be spanked for not knowing this. The men's program was not decimated by this at all and again would like some proof that Jim Calhoun was against Title 9.

Both are great coaches. Hall of Fame worthy. Watched the video and just didn't see or hear anything offensive.

It appears that the moderators have mercifully deleted mauconnfan's "contributions" to this thread, which someone correctly characterized as "misogynistic". We owe them a thank-you for that.
