Can't believe he's on a Fox national broadcast basically imploring us to drop football and join the big East for hoops.

Most proud moment of the last four seasons for Donny was a loss at Georgetown? How about a national title as a member of the AAC.

Donny be more out of touch with reality. You can't.

Donny isn't out of touch, he is VERY in touch. He is basically saying what I have said many times, and doing it in a very national broadcast both in pre-game and post-game can be read in 2 ways. One is that he is expressing Kevin Ollie's thoughts about our situation and his own about what UCONN needs going forward to remain nationally relevant that will help recruiting as well as the fan base. The 2nd thing is to implore FOX or another network to get UCONN into a power conference.

P.S. Remember Donny is a member of the Board of Trustees and we know clearly where he stands regarding our conference situation. In Donny We Trust!

DM does some broadcasting for the Big East games
But I feel as a UConn grad and a member of the Board of Trustee advisory board, maybe he shouldn't of
Perhaps it was tongue in cheek wishing for the old BE days?????

Exactly.

What he did is totally uncalled for as a member of the Board of Trustees.

I can see that point.
It has merit.

I know Donny personally, well not personal friends but our daughters are friends, he is just as passionate about uconn hoops as all of us.

There is no doubt that fan blinders and his employer probably inform that opinion.

I still agree with him :)

You know it actually pisses me off the more I think about it.

Basically throwing Tulsa under the bus who won 10 football games this season and just beat us in basketball and then a bad Tulane who ran us out of the building at the rent a couple weeks ago.

UConn got totally screwed in CR and that's a given but for all the whining that has gone on here we've basically been the 4th best hoop program and the worst football program in the league since inception.

For all of those memories Donny was preaching about the arena today looked half empty.

Pitt, Cuse, Ville, WV and ND ain't walking through that Big East door. And most importantly either is UConn.

He never called for football to be dropped.

He also said this game against Georgetown made him miss the BEast more than anytime in last 4 years; not the most proud he's been in 4 years as you incorrectly stated.

Easy to attack a guy when you put words in his mouth. The guy bleeds blue and he misses the BEast nothing wrong with that.

The only way into the Big East is to drop football. It's that simple and was obviously implied with the comment. Even Gus Johnson alluded to that earlier in the game.

As far as the comment, whatever. If a loss to Georgetown in a half filled arena gets Donny's nostalgia juices flowing then good for him.

We all miss the Big East, but to go on national tv, throw shade on current conference members and act like we are in our predicament as if we chose to be here is dumb. No need to bring those things up representing UConn.

I think it was more than just emotion - if the AAC lost Houston and Cincy - I think basketball would have moved back.
The big east wants to protect their tournament prime time spot at MSG - there's concern the Big10 or ACC might go there occasionally and overshadow the Big East. UConn would guarantee attendance and also UConn would make more money for themselves.

Nope, us and Cincy could go independent and play in a 12-team BE. If the BE was smart that would keep the round-robin (now 22 games) and play two of the six weekend games on big FOX. More money all around. If Cincy went indie with us, we would have enough opponents to play an arguably better football schedule: P5 h/h series the first six weeks; BYU, Cincy, Army, UMass, NMSU, FCS the other six.

Don't think BE wants any schools with P5 football aspirations....the lure to bolt the BE would always be present.

That's idiotic.

So...the BE would still get us and Cincy for a few years and then go back to the status quo at worst. It would be 2 out of 12 schools not 7 out of 15.

So a football schedule of Indiana, @Illinois, @Vandy, Maryland, Rutgers, @WVU, @BYU, Cincy, NMSU, FCS, @Army, UMass is idiotic. It's arguably better than what we have now. 22 conference games in basketball would be insanely awesome. If every conference game was on FOX, FS1, or FS2, and every UConn game was on one of the first two, you wouldn't be complaining. A home conference slate of Nova, Georgetown, Marquette, Cincy, Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, and DePaul is much better than what we have now.

What makes you think you could get that football schedule year in and year out? You couldn't.

Why not? Cincy, Army, UMass, NMSU, and BYU would need opponents. FCS is easy. We scheduled 3 P5 h/h this year. We could have scheduled more if we didn't play in a conference. The first 5-6 weeks you can find opponents. You schedule years out so that you can get teams.
As far as TV, we would make more by just being in the Big East for basketball. The six P5 series and BYU would be on their networks (either ESPN networks, BTN, NESN, etc). The Army game would be on CBSSN.
Cincy would be on FS1 (per the deal with FOX). UMass, Army, and NMSU would be on SNY.

Indiana and Illinois have zero free OOC spots through 2023.

There are other teams, and we wouldn't do this until 2020.
