It's official. New England and Seattle will be the only teams in non-soccer specific stadiums. Not sure if Vancouver is considered a soccer specific stadium seeing how BC Place was built for the Winter Olympics I believe. Regardless, this is a good sign and DC deserves this stadium. That area of DC is gonna be really nice in a few years. Between the Nats stadium and now this stadium, the area should quickly clean up.

Update on the Boston soccer stadium. Supposedly, Kraft's idea for a soccer stadium along I-93 is separate from the temporary Olympic stadium. The soccer stadium would be built on city owned land just a hundred or so yards north of the site for the prposed temporary Olympic Stadium in Widett Circle. Apparently, an old site is also back under consideration - Suffolk Downs, which currently hosts a horse race track, which will be closed soon, and also lost a bid to be the site for the proposed Boston casino. I actually like that location. Overall, The Revs should have a stadium in place by 2026 or so. Argh!

I hate Seattle, but the stadium itself is fine. The turf is not. Technically Century Link is built for soccer and football. But it's a bit spread out for my tastes.

I agree with you in terms of the spread out stadium yet somehow they make it work. I can't recall the last highlight clip or game I've seen where the stadium is not packed. Pretty amazing to do considering it's more of a football stadium in all regards

Caught this in LinkedIn today, YouTube video of the new Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta that will also be the home of the Atlanta United (so original, insert sarcasm) MLS team. Looks like they will lower some form of wrap-around electronic billboard to 'block' the second and third tier of seats to reduce capacity for MLS games to 20K to 30K or so. I assume the field will be artificial and not grass.

The naming rights is for a 27 year deal, amount not disclosed. I know a lot of folks who got hit when Mercedes-Benz announced early in 2015 that they would move their North American headquarters from North Jersey to Atlanta (Sandy Springs). The relocation packages at least for mid level management were not that great and a many were stunned to learn that the average housing price in Sandy Springs GA is actually more that Bergen County NJ ($422K versus $420K). Taxes are lower; but, the schools are not as good. I am sure this 'investment' is going to go over well.
