Mets trade Niese to Bucs for 2B Neil Walker - in a salary push trade. And reports are strong they want to resign Bartolo Colon. Cannot believe he would be offered the 11M he made the past 2 years.
No Zobrist, so the Madoff Mets go sloppy secs at middle infield.
Meh.

Meh from our side, too. Still can't believe the Bucs let Happ walk off to Toronto. Huntington was interested in Happ for 3 years because of Happ's potential. Bucs get him, he turns into the 3rd best lefty in NL. And now we have to settle for Niese and his on-and-off again shoulder. Happy for him that his new arm angle doesn't cause pain. However, his new arm angle also led to his worst season. Not sure even Searage can fix that. I'd rather have seen Bucs just lay out cash for Big Sexy.

Walker is basically a tiny upgrade over Murphy. He has limited range at 2nd and other than 2014, does not hit well from right side. He does have a knack for clutch hits, although he's been completely useless in the post-season.

Everything I've read is Walker is somewhere between Murphy and Zobrist. He's under contract. Doesn't really make us all that much better, but locks down a question mark.

Niese was frustrating to watch at times, but a good Met. Did his job, whatever role they asked and he was a consumate pro. I hope he does well.

Interesting tidbit you NYers might not know... Neil Walker was basically the last direct tie to Roberto Clemente, a big reason why Pittsburghers are freaking out over losing one of their own.

Tom Walker, Neil's dad, was helping Roberto with the airlift and was supposed to accompany him to Nicaragua. But, as the plane was over weight, Roberto told Tom to go enjoy the evening with his wife. Had Tom Walker been on that plane, Neil Walker would never have been born.

Fate.
Wow. Great story. Roberto was a great ball player and better human being. Off to help the poor on that trip when it crashed.
I think Roberto got his 3000th hit against Jon Matlak, a very good Mets pitcher who reminds everyone (myself included) of steven Matz. looks and windup.
