I was wondering last night about Uconn losses as opposed to wins and I just checked out the Uconn record for losses by year as opposed to 30 win seasons. So here are a two observations on overall Uconn won/loss records:
In the last 20 years (since 1992-3 season)
1 year with more than 5 losses (2004-5 with 8) - current streak at 8.
2 years with less than 30 wins (1998-9 with 29 and 2004-5 with 25) - current streak at 8 as well.

Those are both just incredible numbers

And I stumbled on this on the internet - do not remember seeing it at the time:

Sadly, one streak ended this season: at least a share of the Big East regular season and/or BET title. However, the following streaks are active:

  • Twenty years making at least the Sweet 16 (and made the Elite 8 18 of those 20 years).
  • Twenty years winning at least 25 games (and to your point, won 30 in 18 of those seasons)
  • Twenty straight years finishing in the top 10 of the final poll.
  • Twenty straight years without losing twice consecutively.
To put it another way: the "awful" 2004-05 season consisted of a 25-8 record, a #10 ranking in the final poll, a BET title, and a Sweet 16 berth. That was by far the worst season, and I mean not even close, that UConn has had in the past 20.
Simply an incredible run.

With all of his accomplishments, Geno will never surpass Pat Summitt's record in one category - losses.

Pat lost 208 games (although she readily admits in her new book, a couple of those losses were irrelevant). Geno has lost 133 to date. He needs 75 more losses to tie Pat. Over the past 20 years, he lost 55 games. At that rate, he'd have to coach until 2041 to surpass Pat. Somehow, I think he'll retire before age 85.

Even if we had won the BET that streak would have come to an end.
