I lived in Vegas during the early 1980's and meet Coach Tarkanian on several occasions. He belongs on any list That has the heading: " The Greatest College Basketball Coaches of All Time." Yes, he had his flaws - but he was one hell of a coach and his record speaks for itself. I also like the fact that he spent his whole basketball life fighting the American NAZI party, AKA the NCAA - America's largest system of legal slavery in existence today.

Personally, I am very sadden today. Farewell Coach.

My buddy went to UNLV (Hotel Management School) some 30 years ago and is a Casino V.P. Through him I got to go to dozens of UNLV games at the Thomas and Mack (met Larry Johnson, Stacey Augemon and Greg Anthony), dined many times with Jerry, went to the '90 championship game when UNLV crushed Duke and the '91 FF when they were undefeated but lost a killer semi to Duke. His Rebels were the talk of LV and energized the entire city like you couldn't believe. I wouldn't say I knew him well, but the guy I was introduced to was a really nice guy, funny, introspective, humble. He recruited many questionable characters who were definitely not Rhode Scholars, but he cared deeply for his players and advocated for the poor and minorities (even drug dealer Lloyd Daniels.) Yep, that same NCAA lost a lawsuit to Tark and had to pay him a couple million bucks. R.I.P.
