Before Jim Calhoun had Big East Championship talent, before he had National Championship talent, he needed to find ways to be competitive against teams with better talent. His approach? Take kids who weren't getting offers from Syracuse, Georgetown, St John and Villanova, and press the hell out of them from the minute they set foot on the court. When they got the ball, they flew up and down the court, not letting their opponents relax. JC made UConn an exciting place for kids to come - and better players started arriving on campus.

Fast forward to now, Bobby-Boy D plays a 1960s conservative, bend-don't-break defense and a 1950s , ZZzzzzzzzzzzz offense. Resign Bobby-Boy.

Calhoun recruited playing time in the conference, all our former local peers are in a better place.

If we are going to compare other coaches to Jim Calhoun, we might as well abandon our athletic programs today. You insult incomparable coaches by blaming others when they don't reach that level.

To be fair, the coaching staff is recruiting exactly the type of player that fits into what they want to do: big, strong, smart kids who can put on extra muscle and, hopefully, turn into NFL ready bodies (and players) by the time they are JR and SR. All of these big frames are to play a run-first style of offense and present red zone challenges for opposing defenses. We just aren't at the level of execution right now that we need to be.

Additionally, I remember early on in JC's time here continually putting up close shots against Georgetown's trees leading to a miss and a defensive rebound. After the game one of the hoard (who was as frustrated as I was) questioned why we didn't change our approach and try more jump shots. JC responded 'you'll never beat Georgetown if they know you are intimidated by them.'

The following year we beat them for the first time since Corny's senior year.
