12-0 lead blown. No excuse.
It's April 4th. It's a weekday road game. Big East play hasn't started. There are 30 games (>1/2 season remaining) plus the Big East tournament. Can't be that results-oriented. Need to look at what went wrong and what actions to take to fix it for the remainder of the season. I'm sure Penders will take that approach. The first step is winning the BE regular season, then winning the BE tourney. Once getting in the NCAA tourney is accomplished then worry about hosting a sub-regional. Can't put the cart in front of the horse. One step at a time. The number one issue continues to be pitching (starters, middle relief, and closer against GOOD competition). If they get that solved they can be really good. If not they'll beat up on the bad teams and struggle against better teams.

Jez I was available to pitch... If this was a scrimmage it would be embarrassing. As a real game, this is a travesty. Ouch!

I knew our pitching was suspect, but this is frightening! What is Pender's take on this?

Wasted one one of the few opportunities for a decent OOC road win. The loss won't hurt the RPI too much because it was on the road. It was very surprising to see the pitching wheels fall off for this team as they handled lengthy road trips throughout the season.

50% of the pitching staff have ERAs >5.00 representing 46% of total innings pitched. Gotta get that sorted out to have a chance at a great season.

Blow a 12-0 lead. To an Ivy League team….gulp

Certainly a bit painful to end up losing after being up by 12. Columbia is a solid team, certainly better then your average Ivy team.

People need to remember that in general very good baseball teams do not win all their games, something that happens more frequently in other sports. Other than losing the big lead, this is hardly a shocking loss. Just got to go out and keep winning weekend series, and also take the large majority of the midweek games. Right now UConn still looks pretty good at getting into the NCAA Tournament, but we'll see how things go as the season progresses.

UConn already has a number of good wins over out of conference teams in road games. This would include series wins over such teams as FAU, Hawaii, and San Diego State.

I’m blaming Kendall Rogers for hanging a jinx idol on the Huskies prior to the game:

-> Wash, rinse, repeat, UConn is pitching yet again … Last season, the Huskies had one of the nation’s premier pitching staffs and weekend rotations with Pat Gallagher and Austin Peterson leading the charge, among other key relievers. However, the Huskies entered this season with some major question marks on the mound. The good news? UConn has the reigning assistant of the year in pitching coach Josh MacDonald. Even with the departures from last season, the Huskies are still ranked 32nd nationally in ERA and are 20-6 overall. That’s with the weekend rotation just being OK thus far. Look for UConn to again factor heavily when it comes to the NCAA tournament. <-
