The special question is Admiral Farragut, on his flagship, the Hartford, at the battle of Mobile Bay. The Union fleet entered the bay, defeated the CSS forces including the ironclad..Alabama?.

Try CSS Tennessee.

The contest went into overtime. Tennessee lost.

I wonder how many 'Yarders know what Admiral Farragut was damning. Torpedoes? Yeah, but what the heck did that mean in those days?

The torpedoes would today be described as tethered mines.

"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!", a famous order issued by Admiral David Farragut during the Battle of Mobile Bay, a paraphrase of the actual order, "Damn the torpedoes! Four bells. Captain Drayton, go ahead! Jouett, full speed!".

You can see the stern nameplate of the USS Hartford at the old state house in Hartford.

Admiral David Farragut, Mobile Bay in Civil War. Union sip, forgot name. Torpedoes were floating mines.

One wonders how hostory would have treated Farragut if his entire squadron had run into the damned torpedos.

(Give 'em a chance, for crying out loud)

Thanks for the Naval quiz.

One note: 17. Is spelled Binnacle ...we still use this report...even within Marine Corps units...it is a list of all who were seen in sick call or any who remain on any type of restricted quarters' status.

Thanks, CAPT HH

By the way, I will be headed back to the haze grey and underway Navy this summer.
