    Notre Dame @ Oregon St.

Pivec is good. I can see why Tara wanted her, and I guess, score one for Dan Olsen. He/ESPN was the only recruiting service to have her ranked pretty high (#26). PN had her at #52, BS #93 and IIRC pretty low by ASGR too. OSU is a well coached team.

    Final W cuts

In Aglers interview on Dish N Swishin, he says Karlie suffered an injury and should be out for a while, thus the release. She played/shot well in preseason. Surprised she didn't get drafted at least in the 3rd, very, very underrated defender, high IQ, can shoot. Unlike other 3pt specialist in...

Who will be the 2018 NPOY?

ASGR was the only service that rated Gabby that high, bravo. But McCormick did also rate Edwards and Ekmark at the #6 and 8 best players in that same class. Heh. Didn't Gabby tear her ACL summer of junior year/early senior year? I think they may have affected her rankings from other services.

Kelsey Plum sets NCAA mark for points in a season

She would, and learn from Sue for a year or two. There was the interview with Sue a few months (maybe beginning of college WBB) where Sue was joking that Plum needs to have a bad year for Seattle to draft her (at that time Seattle had the #6 pick).

    Monday's other games

Plum is no Maya, but Maya didn't win a NC by herself. Maya and Tina nearly lost to a less talented Stanford team, granted it was Maya and her big shots that secured the victory. Simply put, the only time I've seen a player single handly carry a team to a championship was Sheryl Swoops in 92 (?).

What are the odds KLS/Collier go undefeated while at Connecticut?

ANYTHING can happen if they run into a team that shoots well. Look at Stanford's roster when they beat UConn a few years ago. That Stanford team had 0 Top 10 recruits, where as UConn had a SR KML, JR Stewert, Jefferson, etc. Now, is it likely they will lose? Probably not, but a bad...

OT: Kelsey Plum Explains Why She Didn't Choose a WBB Power House

Plum wasn't even rated that high coming out of HS. She wasn't this 5 Star, Top 10, can't miss prospect. Sure she was a McD AA, but I'm pretty sure most services had her in the 20-40 range. ESPN/PN (when they were under those guys) had her at #26, BlueStar had her at 33, FC had her at 36.

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Does Jenna Brown committing affect Anaya Peoples (PG-2019)? Aren't Peoples and Gilbert supposedly best friends.

    Here's my Christmas list:

Ododa IMO is better than Collier. They can certainly play together, and there is time for one of them to develop a consistant midrange game, but Ododa committing may make Collier think twice (especially if a great stretch 4 like Brunelle commits also).

We (UCONN) no longer have #1 recruiting class for 2017!?

A #1 recruiting class is great, but who did they sign in 2016? And in 2015, all they signed was Cooper and Jackson. UConn in 2015 has the #1 player (Samuelson) and a Top 5 or so (Collier), they nabbed a Top 3 player (#1 PG Dangerfield) in 2016 and now the #1 player in 2017 (Walker) along with...

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Along with Sidney Cooks (and I guess Boothe, though her old list was very much the usual), its nice to see top-ish recruits have a totally different list of finalist than the usual ones. Farley is #19 ESPN, #14 PN, #36 BS, possibly a McD AA with those "rankings".

ESPN Recruiting Class Rankings (UConn 3rd)

People seem to forget that the 2014 recruiting class was a top recruiting class. Neither Edwards nor Ekmark really panned out, but it was a very strong class. BlueStar Williams 6 Edwards 9 Nurse 10 Ekmark 13 ASGR Williams 2 Edwards 6 Ekmark 8 Nurse 14 PN Edwards 8 Williams 18 Ekmark 26 Nurse...

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Don't think Walker should be worried to much about PT even if Dodson commits to ND. IF Walker decides on ND, she should worry more about Jackie Young (and Mabrey/Ogunbowale) for playing time.

UCONN #1 Recruiting Classes - WBB

ASGR had 2014 as #1. And I'm pretty sure based on Lou #1, Collier #3 and Boykin #6 for his rankings, 2015 as well. 1. Connecticut: Gabby Williams, No. 2, 5’11 PG; Sadie Edwards, No. 6, 5’10 SG; Courtney Ekmark, No. 8, 6’0 SG. McCormick on the Huskies: “Gabby Williams is one of the best...

UConn sweep of WNBA Rookie of the Year voting

Tamika Catchings (though she did have a year to learn the system) 18.6 PPG, 8.6 rebounds, 3.7 Assists, 2.9 steals, 1.3 blocks. Plus her defense was top notch likely first team as a rookie. She was the reason Sue didn't win. And if you are into advanced statistics, 30.87 PER. She was the...

    Walker and Westbrook

Agreed. The final 4 team consisted of pretty much only 2 Top 100 players, I think Weisner was in the 40's and Weise in the 60's. Very impressive. He recently got a commit from a pretty good stretch 4's and he has some seem to recruit a few Top 50 players (mostly shooters), so if Westbrook...

    Nneka WNBA MVP

Yup and Lauren Jackson also did it in 2007 (she won MVP that year).

    Nneka WNBA MVP

Chamique Holdsclaw in 2002 led the league in both points and rebounds, and lead the Mystics to the ECF. She didn't even make 1st team WNBA... Not only that, she finished 4th in MVP voting!!

Tenn Gets a Top Guard in 2017 Class

Ever since Dan Olson took over HG (2014?), he's been giving outrageous numbers of 5 star ratings/96-98 grade. I believe a 5 star recruit should only be given to recruits who you feel COULD/have the potential be AA in college (generally 10-15 or so), and then anyone rated 98 and above should be...

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Wait, SC will lose Coates after next year. Scratch that. Anyway, next 2 years will be VERY interesting, particularly 17-18. Throw in Ohio State with a senior Kelsey Mitchell, Mavunga, Calhoun, Harper, sophomore Tori McCoy, etc, Louisville will have seniors Hines-Allen, Mariya Moore and Junior...

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

UCONN will certainly one of the favorites, but I think if South Carolina wins the championship next year (16-17), they essentially will bring back everyone for the 17-18 season. If ND wins, they lose Lindsay Allen, but bring back everyone else. If Baylor wins, they lose a lot in Jones and...

Blog from Nicole Kornet of UCLA re: sticking it out

Brave, a lot of people probably wouldn't have admitted that they didn't get into Stanford (even though its hard enough to get in).

    Ogwumike is the WNBA POY

Both were deserving, and Maya would have had a great case in most years. Nneka's shooting numbers were off the charts, and even though she didn't take a lot of 3's, she did hit 16 of 25 (which is spectacular), and she shot 86% of her FT. Nneka guards the opponents best front court player (even...

U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Walker with Holmes for 3 years would be scary good. Throw in the highly rated guards they have (Atkins 2014, Higgs 2015, Sutton 2016, Patterson 2017), and all they really need a good C, and Texas has tons of those in the 2018 class (will play 2 years with Walker/Holmes, and 3 with Walker).

Oregon Lands A Big One from Germany

Disagree, the top ranked recruiting class (or #2, depending on which service, I'm pretty sure ASGR and BS had UConn at #1) won the NIT the first year, then was a Top 15 team, made the S16 and played Texas pretty tough their 2nd year. I think thats a very good trajectory, considering outside of...

    ESPN Hoopgurlz updated rankings

Maybe she's waiting for Walker's decision. Walker, Coombs, AEH and Gordon would makes it very crowded at the 2/3. Though I suppose Williams projects to be better than everyone but Walker, so she probably shouldn't worry much about playing time.

I think Austin is a good friend of Walker as well. Well, at least he stopped handing out 5 star ratings.

Jayne Appel to retire after this season [merged thread]

Yeah, I remember her as a sophomore and junior beating opposing centers (and some guards) down the floor and getting easy transition buckets. Honestly, she never got back to that fitness level after her injuries, and they probably made her a lot less effective in the pros.

    Still waiting for Griner

Kelsey Bone... Everyone thought Conn got hosed in the trade, and Conn also gets the right to Jillian Alleyne, who I think, at worst should be a servicable back up post. I know Bone requested a trade, but she had to know she wasn't going to get a lot of playing time playing behind...

    Walker and UConn.

Outside of Diggins, and I guess Loyd (though Diggins and Loyd never played together), no one on those team that beat UConn were rated in the Top 10 coming out of HS. UConn still had more "talent". How did they not "work" hard?

Stanford's Lili Thompson transfers to ND

Hmm, if its her decision to leave the team, why is she still on scholarship? Huge blow. They would have returned everyone from the E8 team + some solid freshman. Had a very strong chance at a F4.

Best rookie class in WNBA history?

Yikes at the 2005 draft. The 2006 draft is pretty top heavy. Forgot about Hayes in 2012 draft. Look at the 2008 draft. Candace and Fowles obviously, but Holt and Anosike only last a few years, Ajavon has been a journey-woman, and Wiggins career never got back on track after injuries. You...

Best rookie class in WNBA history?

Huge WBall fan/WNBA. All I did was quickly glance at the draft boards via Wiki. Hehe. I think Stewert will finish #5 or so in the MVP voting behind Nneka, Tina, Maya and Parker. Depending on Chicago's record, I could see EDD finishing ahead of her. If LA ends up at like say 29-5 or 30-4, I...

Best rookie class in WNBA history?

I wouldn't count 1999 as it had mostly ABL players. 2001 was special. LJ and Catch were Super Stars, lots of players who were multiple All-Stars, All-WNBA like Deanna Nolan, Penny Taylor, Katie Douglas, Ruth Riley, Marie Ferdinand (she was great pre-pregnancy), and then you also had Jackie...
