Could not agree more with #3. Analytics be damned ... Does Penders realize what message he is sending his team by bunting his clean up hitter in that situation?? Absolutely not a team confidence building decision.
Questioning a ref's judgement on a holding or pass interference call is subjective and up for debate.
Adding a 2nd review, to a play that was already reviewed and decided, is a complete abuse of the rules. That's not paranoia or fanaticism. That's a blatant attempt to influence the outcome of...
We can debate the merits of the targeting call all day long. A lot of that is left to referee and officials interpretation. I can live with a referee's opinion, no matter how questionable it is. That judgement is well within their purview.
What is NOT subject to interpretation is a 2nd review...
It looks like it was supposed to be a tunnel screen to Joly, but the timing and movement was off. Joly needed to come to the ball and get inside of the hash marks and Roberson needed to lead him towards the middle of the field. #14 Harris did his job. #71 Senn & #62 NOY were in position to...
Following the successful 4th & 1 was a GREAT time for some type of play action pass to take a shot downfield. I wasn't totally thrilled with the Honig play call or the execution. State's CB #3 White was not fooled and had Houston covered. But Joly blew right by FS #0 Brown ... If only Honig had...
I was at the game last night and watched it when I got home. The announcers both definitely stated it would be a 4th and 1 ... And seemed very surprised when the 1st down was given.
The stadium architects may have intended for the home team to be on the press box side. IIRC ... someone in the AD switched that up long before the innagural game vs Indiana. I don't believe UConn has ever been on the press box side.
Take what they give you. Sometimes Charlton's and Zion's checks are predicated on what the D takes away. When their D stacked the box Clercius became an option. And Charlton dialed it up perfectly.
Almost looked like he didn't decide to slide until the very last second, causing him to be too high and an easy tag target for the catcher. A proper slide may have gotten Ferrer under the tag.
Brett Berard to the Rangers in the 5th Round 134th overall. For those who may not know, son of former Huskies Assistant and current Holy Cross Head Coach David Berard. Brett is now a Freshman at Providence.
Serious question:
Stay glued to the bench at Chelsea (until recently), or start and play regularly in the MLS?? Which would prepare him better to make the French Euros squad this summer??
I always thought Frazer had the better arm and Endres had the better touch. One of my favorite Frazer throws was the TD to Darius Butler at Louisville.
IMO ... I think/hope we'll see something comparable to Cody Endres. Command the huddle, manage the game, and put the ball where it can be caught, but not picked off. Sometimes getting your line in the right protections and your receivers into the right routes is better than having a rifle arm...
Thank you to everyone that contributes to the play by play of game day threads!! Nothing like coming home from work and reading from the start!
Also .... I vote that Nick stay away from the live threads a little while longer... we need more data before we come to a conclusion ...
Bummer for UCONN Band alumni for Homecoming ... they can participate in pregame only. UCONN Band Alumni will not be involved in the halftime show because the UMASS band will be joining the UCONN band for that.
Glad you liked "A Pivotal Play", but they just became too time consuming. If I did one this week it would be the INT before halftime. My all time favorite one was calling out Diaco for lying about the play clock running down.
I also liked, and now miss, Santini's highlight videos ...
