A'ja Wilson is really in pain with her ankle injury.

I have great admiration for A'ja. she is intimidating physically. crazy comparison, but she reminds me of Muhammad Ali - tall, broad, strong, and moves well. That said, I am rooting for her full recovery but I will be rooting for UCONN to beat her and her team in February.

Crazy observation - not a complaint. Whazzup with Saniya's exaggerated head fakes?

The head fakes just make me chuckle because they are so overly exaggerated. I really like Saniya's game. Her leg problems seem to be behind her - or at least managed well by PT and hopefully, she will be able to rise to her potential with little physical ailments for the rest of the season.

A'ja Wilson is really in pain with her ankle injury.

not training with team. In uniform, but using a medical scooter/walker. Ankle injury to sideline Gamecocks' All-American A'ja Wilson against Georgia the article said she would not play against Georgia.

Crazy observation - not a complaint. Whazzup with Saniya's exaggerated head fakes?

My sentiments. watching rerun of game now. I also like Saniya's soft jumper - she goes up on two feet, down and then puts up a smooth, almost mechanical shot - always the same motion.

Crazy observation - not a complaint. Whazzup with Saniya's exaggerated head fakes?

Maybe I'll play the game back to see if she faked anyone out. On a side note, Danger made the coolest move last night - and the fans were in awe.

Butler looked really good tonight.... She will make a difference against the Gamecocks....

What no one has mentioned, including me until now, is that there are a half dozen games between SFU game and Coates/Wilson game. Natalie has some games, coaching, and practice to add to her upside.

Butler looked really good tonight.... She will make a difference against the Gamecocks....

Come to think of it, Dolson didn't jump much, or am I mistaken?

Butler looked really good tonight.... She will make a difference against the Gamecocks....

What is strange is that a good amount of "bigs" don't jump. remember that real good big from Oregon State last year? she did so many good things yet her feet were nailed to floor.

Butler looked really good tonight.... She will make a difference against the Gamecocks....

I was really impressed with Natalie tonight against South Florida. She did a lot of things quite well tonight. Chung also had a great game. I love UCONN victories by "Committee" These young ladies have game.

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

Gus, by nasty, I believe you mean like Stef Dolson was at times, right? If so, I agree completely.

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

If you are a "big" and you get an offensive rebound, there is an advantage to going back up to score - the biggest advantage is that you can put an opposing "big" in further foul trouble - maybe even that player will have to have some bench time for the rest of the quarter. To frequently pass...

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

lastly, I believe most players have a breakout night - where they are hitting on all cylinders. Sure some never have one but those that do remember that night forever.

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

Great observations on upside / downside of the 4, Nat, and Chong and Danger. The only exception I take regarding Nat being in takes away scoring from another player - is Kelly Farris. She was "in" and her offensive and defensive prowess more than compensation for her less than stellar scoring...

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

I agree that each player has a "max" upside that happens in spurts. We all thought Stewie was at the top of her game in her sophomore year, then we thought she hit the ceiling as a junior, but she fooled us. Also, she ups her game in March. Its like she goes from Mighty Mouse in February to...

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

Another amazing thing about Geno and his staff is they do not keep their "recipe" a secret. He invites anyone to observe his practice sessions. It is not like how Coke keeps their formula in a vault or how KFC has a secret batter recipe. Bottom line: no other coaching staff wants to have a...

Is it just me or is Natalie Butler upping her game? I believe she is asserting herself more

At the beginning of the season, Natalie seemed very unsure of herself - when making offensive rebounds she had a tendency to throw the ball back out to teammates as her first option. Now she appears to be looking to go back up as her first option. I think Natalie will be key in defeating South...

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

I also hope that if some UCONN starters get into foul trouble, that Geno will trust Molly Bent to engage in stifling defense minutes for a couple of spurts. I think she is ready for a breakout performance. No, she will not play unless absolutely necessary, but if she does play, she will make...

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

I agree, Rixxx, this year it is by committee - for the previous 6 years or so, Farris or Jefferson had the job on great guards and Tuck or Stokes for bigs.

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

I respectfully disagree. This year it is by committee but for the past 5 - 6 years, Kelly Farris had the duty - in lieu of refining her own offensive skills. Then the.gauntlet was passed to Morriah Jefferson for opposing excellent guards and to Stewie or Stokes or Tuck for great bigs. I agree...

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

No one is even hinting that she is not deserving of All American status. many women make All American without ever going to UCONN. In fact, my question honors her because I realize that the best UCONN player/players have to guard her to try to minimize her performance - it might not work...

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

Good observations.... also, having Butler in the paint for half the game might limit Jones.

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

Bite your tongue, "iamcbs" ;-) I thought it would be Baylor and then I thought it would be South Carolina. I knew Texas would not be a challenge. I originally thought that Maryland and UCONN would be a coin flip - except for the home advantage to Maryland, but as UCONN grew through synergy, I...

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

I agree about McGuff and Mitchell. Three years and looks the same in the stat dept. Geno would have her at 1st or 2nd team All American - if she was open to adjusting her play to meet his demands for improvement.

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

I agree. I also would like to have Bent really step up. She sure looks like a tough kid.

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

    Great observations, thanks.

    Who will guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough?

In the past we had Kelly Farris who always had the job of hawking the best the opposing team had to offer - then we had Moriah Jefferson. so, who is that one player who will go to no ends to neutralize that hot shot shooting star - in this case, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough? Williams and Collier...

Who says that Napheesa is playing like an AA?

    2. Ben Simmons, LSU (19.9 ppg, 14.9 rpg, 6.0 apg) Ben Simmons, LSU (19.9 ppg, 14.9 rpg, 6.0 apg. Against North Florida last Wednesday, the 6-10 freshman forward became the only player in the last six seasons to have 40 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in one game. Simmons also...

Who says that Napheesa is playing like an AA?

I think two UCONN players are capable of a 5 x 5 - Collier and Williams. My gut tells me Stewie came close once or twice.

    I know of a double double, but what is a 5 x 5?

How can Nurse be so fantastic in the olympics & play so poorly offensively at UConn???

I agree and would add: substitute Kelly Faris everywhere you used Kia and it still will be spot on!

Molly Bent and Kyla Irwin - will they impact UCONN's run this year?

Excellent observations. One added comment on Butler. In a few situations under the hoop she seemed hesitant to go back up after snagging an offensive rebound - choosing to pass nearby. I think as she develops more, she will assert herself more often
