    Let the Carousel begin!

Don't know much about her coaching chops, but I feel old - I remember her as a player for Iowa in the years shortly after Vivian came to Rutgers.

New school commitments by Transfers - March 2024

We need depth. A lot of it. There were several stories lately, yes, I would say that she thinks Jones and Williams are wonderful and Cunningham can be. Unfortunately, being injured this past year, its hard to know how Dew will perform - high expectations. A recent article said she wants 14 -...

Portal, I think, not NIL. That fits the issues as she described them better, as said the NIL at DII not likely a huge factor.

Um - he's got it. He is an ASU (and NAU) fan. He was intermixing his comments about Arizona with a reference to his. Put another way "AS Who" vs "No Pity for the Kitties".

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

The first line is - if I am getting you - incorrect. No one that was on Barnes first team was on the Final Four team. Your second point is correct, at least at times in the past. Always a mixed bag. There was a great culture to the Final Four team, really, but a few major misses. The...

    Sad Sign of the Times

I tend not to express my Maryland feelings fully, either. On the list of WBB teams I don't root for, unless they are playing a team I dislike even more - and even then its hard. UCLA in several sports is another one, ASU of course, State Penn, Alabama, Florida in a number of sports, . . . The...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

Exactly. Adia means something similar at Arizona - support for your teammates and their success, taking practice and all seriously, working hard, etc. etc. Unlike UConn and South Carolina, she hasn't always achieved it, although this year's returning group comes close, as did the group that...

    Women’s basketball & social media

I'll take an odd middle ground, I'm not sure I can claim we are big fans of the WNBA per se, although we were season ticket holders for more than 10 years at the start (NY Liberty) and had a partial package for the Mercury when we moved out here. We just follow so much that the energy flags...

Absolutely beautiful campus, Rutgers played there when Julie Rousseau was the coach. At the time it looked like Pepperdine might be up and coming at its level, but nothing much came of it.

Players Utilizing covid year, As of March 2024

This makes me so happy. Adia really wanted this, but Isis pointed out that she was going into real estate sales and didn't need a 6th year of schooling and had no desire to spend a 6th year in school. But Adia asked all the fans to encourage her to return, and, well, whatever made the...

    Let the Carousel begin!

He wasn't fired, if that's what you are saying. He didn't like the fact that coaching in the power conference took all his time and energy, he didn't feel it was worth it. We ran into him in Cleveland in 2007, wearing our Rutgers gear (this was the year he had almost beaten UConn) and he said...

    Tara Vanderveer Retires (merged)

As was mentioned above, that is the model the PAC followed, traveling partners determined by geography (Arizona, Washington and Oregon school pairs, LA schools, Bay Area schools, and mountain schools). For Stanford and Cal this will probably work. I actually think some of the other odd...

New schools to the Big Ten

I thought he was talking about the ref style, and they are different. My favorite theme, but we came from the old Big East in 2011 out west to Arizona. The difference was shocking. We were out here before the oBE broke up into the American and the current Big East, and before Rutgers went to...

Poll - How long will the Hillsman hire last?

Hillsman's behavior was jerk with a bit of sexual inuendo IIRC, but yeah, mostly jerk and somewhat bizarre. It was bad enough that the baggage would almost certainly keep a school from hiring him as a head coach, and I do agree that an Asst. may not be able to behave that way, but - no, at...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

Grass is greener hopes are probably at the forefront for most in the portal. I'll stick with Adia's consistent comments about how, for a lot of players, it is about the minutes. They're getting 19, they want 23. One of the examples she used. Also, players who have specific ideas about the...

How reffing and rules should be changed

If you saw the same things I did, they were during pre-game shoot-around, not the actual game. I didn't see any jewelry during the game, almost every player had jewelry during the pre-game.

    Let the Carousel begin!

Arizona - the University - is in financial straits and conducting layoffs and targeting athletic staff as part of it. That said, she makes a million a year, and not sure Marquette is going to attract her from her alma mater. Especially given the upside her current team has (although they could...

How reffing and rules should be changed

That would be a small group in DI. The vast majority of schools stream games. Current rules permitting checking out-of-bounds and foul upgrades exist, although I agree there are probably schools that don't have the footage. But if they stream, they probably have the ability to show the refs.

How reffing and rules should be changed

I know this is only a "partway" answer but - - The NCAA did acknowledge, for example, that the championship game last year was not refereed to standard, and the refs that worked last years final game were definitely banned from the final four and possibly the entire tournament this year. -...

Breanna, D and Sue + guests- topic: do you need a natty to be one of the greatest?

She is one of the all time college greats - note "one of". As they were discussing on today's "pre-game", you can argue Cheryl Miller (in fact, I recently read an article that did). You can argue Stewart. Holdsclaw. Parker. Etc. In the same way as has been discussed regarding coaches, it...

    Reaction to the call

I get it. "My" team (Rutgers / Arizona) has had that happen to them. In the abstract, I certainly get why folks are upset, but to me it was a foul - a minor one, but a foul - and what folks are really questioning is whether or not a ref should make a marginal call that affects the result of...

Paige talks about media coverage Next year. Replacing Caitlin Clark.

Well, I never noticed ESPN not promoting Paige when she was the "hot" thing, and I think they would have hyped her unmercifully over the years if she hadn't been injured and meanwhile Clark became the hot thing. JuJu will be promoted, of course, another Fox / B1G property, of course. Might be...

    Let the Carousel begin!

There is a bit of apples to oranges aspect, though. Toledo is in the MAC, which from time to time (a while ago) even snuck a 2nd team into the tourney. They are a decent mid-major, and often quite competitive within conference (perhaps the teams are well balanced?). They also have divisions...

    2024 Final Four Referees announced

I think that's a stretch, partly because for your praise, I have also read criticism in the past of her. I'll settle for saying I think she is one of the better. While I have no idea who the best I've ever seen is, I'm sure it isn't Maj. I like Dee Kantner, by the way, but she is on the...

    Let the Carousel begin!

I have no idea where to find it / them, but there were profile(s) around the time of his FF run that, if I recall correctly, painted him as very spiritual and "Christian". This might appeal to some, it seems to have appealed to Syracuse both with Q and also the current coach. It isn't that I...

    2024 Final Four Referees announced

I suspect Vaszily isn't necessarily a bad ref, because while I don't much care for his work, I can't really pinpoint anything. Amplifying on what someone said above, Missy Barlow is not particularly popular with anybody. Has always been thought of as a great ref, but I've never been able to...

    WBIT and WNIT results

Left out a comma. And the relatively no-name WNIT Semis - Minnesota (last P5 standing plays Troy, and Vermont (beat Purdue) plays Saint Louis (beat Wisconsin). In the Nova / Illini WBIT matchup - go Nova. If Minnesota makes the finals of the WNIT, I would probably root for them, just because.

    Elite 8

Possibly. Back in the day, most teams did. Then, it became a political statement to line up for the anthem. Arizona teams (and back when we were following Rutgers) the team started lining up because the fans wanted it. But we had a couple visiting teams that left the court for the national...

WBIT - Villanova still in it (Go Lucy!)

I didn't get the reference either. I am largely undecided about NCAA pandering to women, but at least the WBIT semis and final game are in the same location as the Men's NIT semis and final.

Am I blind, or where did restricted circles go in Moda Center last night???

Yes, they were on most courts because they are shared with men, who still have the restricted circle. The announcers actually often explained that they didn't apply in the women's game, whenever a block /charge was called that would have been otherwise had the arcs been in place.

    WBIT and WNIT results

Its all very interesting - the WBIT final four is on TV Monday. Villanova, Penn State and Illinois from the B1G and Washington State. No real mid-majors left (about half the 32 team field were mid-majors). The WNIT Elite 8 equivalent is Monday, as well, not on TV. 3 teams from the B1G are...

    OSU edges ND

If you read articles you will find there are a number of players on various teams that apparently do wear jewelry. The Ole Miss coach stated as much, that a number of her players do. They largely cover it up. Someone above criticized the "cover it up" as being somehow "worse". No, they don't...

Pac 12 as we know it: 23-24 Season Outlook

I'm not a men's basketball fan but obviously root for Arizona in all things. This seems like a pattern, as you say. It's too early to say Lloyd can't win the big one, but I can hear the rumblings. The thing I always remember - Lute only won once, and got him adored. Heck, his statue is in...

    Let the Carousel begin!

I didn't say it was accurate - but that was what fans at Rutgers back in the late '90's and early 2000's were saying about the mid-west teams, based largely on the style of play that some of the coaches (especially in the Big 10) favored. It was perceived that this was one of the reasons Vivian...
